Helping Hand Appeal
With an active presence in over 130 countries, The Salvation Army works in partnership with communities around the world to resource and support them to overcome poverty and injustice.
Join in to support this work through the annual Helping Hand Appeal, an annual collaboration between the Family Ministries Unit and International Development UK. Take part at any time, as an individual or in a small group.
The focus of the 2023 Helping-Hand Appeal is Clean Water - working alongside communities to improve access to clean water and adequate sanitation.
Water is more than a drink. It is children thriving. It is continued education. It is time to build your business. It is the potential for equal opportunities. It is economic independence. Water is life!
In communities where water vulnerability is a daily reality, people are working together to find solutions. In Malawi, The Salvation Army is journeying with different schools and communities in the northern district of Karonga as they identify opportunities to improve access to clean water and promote hygiene and sanitation.
There are many elements to this far-reaching, integrated project, such as drilling boreholes, constructing toilet blocks and handwashing facilities in schools, conducting agricultural training for food security, and raising awareness about gender equality.
This is just one of the Clean Water projects that The Salvation Army in the United Kingdom and Ireland Territory supports. All money raised through the 2023 Helping-Hand Appeal will go towards supporting future Clean Water projects.

About Helping Hand
Helping Hand is a fundraising campaign with a difference, encouraging people to look beyond our own local boundaries and domestic needs to those of others around the world. Please make a difference by adding your support.
The Helping-Hand Appeal was the inspiration of Colonel Olive Booth during the Second World War. Soon afterwards a regular pattern developed and the worldwide Home League began donating money to a variety of Salvation Army projects, particularly those overseas. The resources produced enabled funds to be raised in creative and challenging ways alongside learning something about the partner territory in which each project is situated.
This current collaboration between Family Ministries and International Development commenced with the 2001 Appeal ‘Living Water’ and has, since that time, raised in excess of £2.5 million. The Appeal supports The Salvation Army's international projects in the areas of anti-trafficking, clean water, food security, gender justice and income generation.
