Strawberry Field
Strawberry Field is an award-winning visitor attraction located on the site of a former Salvation Army children’s home.
As a child, John Lennon would seek solace in its gardens, an experience that would later inspire The Beatles hit song ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’ and make Strawberry Field a household name.
Strawberry Field has been in the care of The Salvation Army since the 1930s serving as both a place of spiritual reflection and a sanctuary for vulnerable young people. Today, that legacy lives on through The Salvation Army’s redevelopment of the site, giving young people with barriers to employment in Liverpool the opportunity to thrive, while honouring the place that inspired John Lennon.
Remaining true to the tradition of giving young people the best chance to succeed in life, Strawberry Field continues to empower the next generation through Steps to Work, a training hub for young people with learning difficulties and other barriers to employment. Strawberry Field’s duty of care extends beyond young people, also offering regular wellbeing activities including chair-based exercises for older people and community gatherings.
Alongside this mission, visitors can explore the site’s rich heritage through an interactive exhibition celebrating its history, John Lennon’s childhood, and the writing and recording of ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’. The site also features a welcoming café and a peaceful garden for spiritual reflection, blending education, culture, heritage, and spirituality in one inspiring space.
Every visit or donation helps sustain this legacy and keep its famous ‘gates open for good’, supporting vulnerable people within the community.
