Take a guided London City Walk and raise vital cash for modern slavery victims

published on 24 Jan 2020

A Salvation Army volunteer is offering an opportunity for people to boost their step count and learn about the City of London’s history at the same time as supporting The Salvation Army's work with victims of modern slavery.

Every Friday from now until 14 February 2020, there will be twice daily personal tours of the City.  The themed London City Walks are led by an experienced Blue Badge Tourist Guide and City of London Guide and explore aspects such as London’s Roman remains or its world famous heritage in financial trading.

Centuries after slavery was supposedly abolished tens of thousands of people are estimated to be currently living as slaves in the UK. The Salvation Army provides vital support to rescued victims in England and Wales through a government contract which has delivered safe accommodation and specialist support to more than 10,000 people in the past eight years.

The Salvation Army’s Victim Care Fund provides additional support to survivors of slavery, to help with a range of needs and make their move to living independently easier. Proceeds from the walks will be donated to The Salvation Army’s Victim Care Fund, to help provide things like household items and rental deposits to set up a new home and equipment and training to help people get work.

The guided walks starts at 11am and 2pm each Friday from outside The Salvation Army International Headquarters near the Millennium Bridge, and last up to two hours. They are moderate in pace and length to be suitable for accompanied children or those with disability.  Refreshments before or after the walks are available to buy at the conveniently located Café 101, in the lower level of The Salvation Army’s International Headquarters building.

Anyone interested in joining just needs to turn up with a cash donation of £10 per walker. Please note the guide can only accept cash donations.

Modern slavery

We have been combatting slavery and supporting survivors of this horrendous crime since our earliest days, but what is modern slavery and how can we spot the signs in our own community?
