Why has The Salvation Army chosen modern slavery as the cause?

Modern slavery occurs when a person’s freedom is taken away and they are controlled or exploited for someone else’s personal or financial gain. It can include human trafficking, forced labour, criminal exploitation and sexual exploitation, and often involves people being deceived, threatened or forced into situations they cannot escape. Although often hidden, modern slavery exists across the world and throughout the UK - in large cities, smaller towns and communities. Today, an estimated 50 million people worldwide are living in modern slavery, including around 122,000 people in the UK. The Salvation Army supports adult survivors by providing safe accommodation, specialist support and practical help so they can rebuild their lives. Funds raised through the London Marathon 2027 will directly support this vital work, helping survivors recover and create a brighter future.

How do I get a place?

Charity Place Applications for The Salvation Army charity places will open in April 2026. Places are not allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so we encourage you to take time to complete your application fully and thoughtfully. As we have a limited number of places available, applications will be reviewed carefully. Successful applicants will be contacted in June and July 2026. If you do not receive an offer from us, you will automatically be added to our waitlist. Ballot Place You can increase your chances of running by entering the public ballot via the TCS London Marathon website. You are welcome to apply for both a charity place and a ballot place. If you secure a ballot place, we would still love for you to join Team Sally Army. Simply email us at londonmarathon@salvationarmy.org.uk to let us know you got a ballot place and would like to join the team!

How much does it cost to take part?

Charity placeIf you are offered a charity place with Team Sally Army, you will be asked to pay a non-refundable registration fee of £100 within two weeks of accepting your place. This secures your spot on the team, alongside your commitment to reach the minimum fundraising target. Ballot placeIf you secure your own place through the public ballot and choose to join Team Sally Army, there is no registration fee to take part with us.

How much sponsorship do I need to raise?

Charity PlaceIf you are offered a charity place with The Salvation Army, you will need to commit to raising a minimum of £2,750. This total includes any Gift Aid added to donations. To help keep you on track, we set fundraising milestones throughout the year which you will need to meet in order to keep your charity place. While this may feel like a big target, it is very achievable when you start early - and many of our runners go on to raise far more than they ever expected! Ballot PlaceIf you secure your own place through the London Marathon ballot, there is no minimum fundraising requirement. We are incredibly grateful for your support and will be here to help you raise as much as you can for The Salvation Army’s vital work.

How can I fundraise £2,750?

Fundraising is a great opportunity to get creative! You could organise a bake sale, start a monthly running club, host a coffee morning or quiz night, or check whether your employer offers matched giving. There are lots of ways to reach your target, and you won’t be doing it alone, you’ll have a dedicated contact at The Salvation Army who will support you throughout your journey and provide helpful fundraising resources along the way. If your donors are UK taxpayers and choose to add Gift Aid, their donation increases by 25% at no extra cost to them, helping you reach your fundraising target even faster!

When do I find out if I have been successful in obtaining a place?

If you secure a ballot place, you are still very welcome to join Team Sally Army and fundraise to support survivors of modern slavery.

Where is the discounted accommodation that you offer?

Accommodation is in the form of comfortable modern flats or rooms at our training centre, William Booth College, in Denmark Hill, which is 10 minutes by train or bus to central London. This is available to our runners for the night before and/or the night of the London Marathon and can be purchased as soon as you have a place, subject to availability. Booking for the accommodation needs to be made through The Salvation Army Community and Fundraising Events Team – please contact us on london.marathon@salvationarmy.org.uk.

Once you have submitted your application for a London Marathon 2027 charity place, you will receive a confirmation email to let you know we’ve received it. We will contact you in June or July if we are able to offer you a charity place. If we’re unable to offer you a place at that time, you will automatically be added to our waitlist, and we will be in touch if a place becomes available. If you are offered a charity place, you will need to pay the £100 registration fee and set up a JustGiving fundraising page within two weeks. After this, we will add you to the London Marathon registration console so you can complete your official event registration.

London Marathon MyWay 2027

The London Marathon MyWay event is an official TCS London Marathon Events experience that gives you the option to complete the iconic 26.2-mile marathon distance wherever you'd like - through your local park, around your neighbourhood, along the coast – the choice is yours!

As one of the most inclusive and accessible marathon events in the world, MyWay is a fantastic opportunity to be part of the London Marathon experience in a way that works for you. Plus, you can join Team Sally Army and raise vital funds to support the work of The Salvation Army!

You’ll have 24 hours to complete your marathon on either Saturday, 24 April or Sunday, 25 April 2027, anytime between 00:00:00 and 23:59:59. Run the full 26.2 miles in one go or split it into stages throughout the day. This is your marathon, your way!

Please note: the distance must be completed outdoors and cannot be completed indoors or on a treadmill.

How to register for the MyWay event and join Team Sally Army

To register for the London Marathon MyWay event, visit the official London Marathon website and choose whether you’d like to take part on Saturday or Sunday. Then complete your registration by paying the £40 entry fee (£55 for international participants).
