Legacies are usually paid to The Salvation Army by the executor of a Will during the estate administration process. If you are administering an estate, you can contact our Legacy team for guidance on how to transfer the gift securely on 020 7367 4656 or email legacies@salvationarmy.org.uk 

We can be appointed to act as the Executors. We do not however have the capacity to undertake the Executor duties 'in house' so we would appoint a solicitor to act on our behalf. Where possible, we would aim to keep the costs associated with the administration to a minimum, but any costs incurred would be met from your estate.

I give £X or X% of the residue of my estate to The Salvation Army (Registered Charity No. 214779 and in Scotland SC009359), 1 Champion Park, London, SE5 8FJ for its general charitable purposes [and I request The Salvation Army but without imposing any binding trust or legal obligation to use the legacy for (insert name of project, corps or area of work)] and direct that the receipt of the Legacy Manager or of any other appropriate officer for the time being of The Salvation Army shall be a good discharge to my Executors.

Yes, you can choose to leave a restricted gift (for a specific project or area) or an unrestricted gift (which allows us to use the funds where the need is greatest). Unrestricted gifts are often the most flexible and impactful.

Complex Wills are unlikely to be covered by our free Will-writing partners, but they can provide a quote for a Will that meets your needs and may be able to offer other services such as Power of Attorney or Will storage.

It’s a good idea to review your Will every few years or after major life changes, such as marriage, divorce or having children, to make sure it still reflects your wishes.

You can leave several types of gifts, including:

• A residuary gift (a percentage of your estate)
• A pecuniary gift (a fixed sum of money)
• A specific gift (such as property, shares, or valuable items)

Yes, every gift makes a difference, no matter the size. Even small contributions can help The Salvation Army continue supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged people in need.

Yes, gifts to registered charities are usually exempt from inheritance tax. If you are a higher rate taxpayer, leaving 10% or more of your estate to charity may also reduce the overall inheritance tax rate on your estate.

You do not have to tell us, but letting us know allows us to thank you, keep you updated, and ensure your wishes are understood. It also helps us to plan for the future, and continue to be there for people facing the biggest problems in our society.
