New report calls for a “Decade of Dignity” to help eradicate modern slavery in the UK
The Salvation Army is proud to be part of a coalition of leading anti-slavery organisations behind a new report, Decade of Dignity: A Strategic Vision for Eradicating Modern Slavery in the UK.
The report sets out a practical roadmap for stronger action to prevent exploitation, bring offenders to justice and ensure survivors receive the support they need to recover and rebuild their lives.
It highlights that modern slavery continues to thrive where systems are weak, fragmented or inconsistent, leaving people vulnerable to abuse and exploitation. It also recognises the resilience of survivors and the importance of placing their voices and experiences at the heart of future reform.
The report calls for action across four key areas:
- Stronger corporate accountability to tackle exploitation in supply chains
- A tougher criminal justice response with modern slavery treated as a policing priority
- Long-term, survivor-centred support that helps people recover and move forward
- A joined-up national strategy to protect children from exploitation
At The Salvation Army, through our work supporting adult survivors of modern slavery in England and Wales, we see both the harm exploitation causes and the hope that can come with the right support. We know lasting change is possible when government, business, charities and communities work together.
Eradicating modern slavery is not only a moral imperative. It also helps build a fairer society, supports responsible business, disrupts organised crime and enables survivors to rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.
We welcome this shared vision and the renewed focus on practical, coordinated action.
