In the meantime, find out more about the story behind our Victory Programme recipe book and the people we support.

The Victory Programme is a six-week course inspired by the resourcefulness and community spirit shown during the Second World War. The sessions include tips on cooking for less than a pound, planning meals at home, and where to shop on a budget. The course is even more vital as the cost-of-living crisis worsens.

Our video showcases how the Victory Programme course is run and helps participants learn new skills and make friends. We run the course in Scarborough, an area with high levels of child poverty in the UK, where we teach cooking and essential budgeting skills. In May 2025, we also launched the course at Sheringham Salvation Army. One of the course participants and volunteer, Mary, told us:

A woman smiling towards the camera, wearing an apron.
“Sharing ideas and learning from others was a real highlight. I picked up some practical tips that have helped me stretch my budget and eat more healthily, and it reminded me that we’re never too old to learn something new!”
- Mary, Sheringham

Of course, we couldn’t do what we do without support from people like yourself. If you are in a position to give, your support could make a real difference.
