Survivor stories

The Salvation Army has supported over 21,000 survivors of modern slavery since 2011 – each year the number of survivors entering support increases. 

Harry’s story: “when they found me - I could breathe for the first time in years.” Harry now spends his retirement volunteering in a Salvation Army charity shop and enjoying social activities in his local community. He continues to receive support in an on-going investigation of his traffickers and remains grateful for all the care and direction he has received since his escape.

Hadiza’s story: By the time Hadiza left the safehouse she started to smile and laugh again. Hadiza is now living independently and studying; she recently went on an apprenticeship scheme for a major UK supermarket group. She feels much more positive about life and is keen to help other people understand that without the support she’s received, she could not imagine how she would have survived to start rebuilding her life.
