Salvation Army responds to local emergency evacuation

published on 5 Dec 2025

Following a call to be designated a rest centre by the local council, The Salvation Army in Derby was mobilised to support individuals and families from the 200 plus homes affected by an emergency evacuation in Derby area after a major incident. The local church located at The Spot, 36-38 Osmaston Road opened to the public, providing a warm space, hot refreshments, and practical care for those affected, working closely with emergency services to ensure community safety, provisions and comfort.

The Salvation Army Church leader in Derby Central Major Gary Robb said at the time of the evacuation:

“We have been designated a rest centre by the Derby City Council and are thankful that no-one has been hurt during this incident. We are open to provide a warm space and hot refreshments to people affected by this evacuation. We are working with emergency services to ensure there are provisions to keep people warm and comfortable. We are grateful to our volunteers who will be on hand to help. This is what our faith is about, serving our local community in whatever way we can.”

The Salvation Army stands ready to offer care and compassion in times of crisis, reflecting its mission to serve with compassion and bring hope where it’s needed most.
