Refugee children thank key workers in heart-warming video

Children who have been supported by The Salvation Army to resettle in the UK with their families after fleeing conflict in Syria have recorded a video to thank key workers for what they have done during the pandemic.
The short film has been released to mark Refugee Week 2021, a UK-wide celebration of the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary. It features youngsters whose families have been supported by staff based at George Williams Lifehouse (supported accommodation for people who are homeless) in Fleetwood, Lancashire
Iylaf, 14, said: “I would like to thank all nurses and doctors for all the hard work you have done during the pandemic and trying to help us to stay safe. Words can’t express hoe thankful we are. All of you are heroes and we are all so grateful. Thank you for being brave. You are saving us and saving our nation.”
There, the caseworker Alex Foden works closely with Lancashire County Council and Wyre Council to resettle families, helping them with all aspects of their lives including housing, education and training, health needs and community integration. It is part of the government scheme to provide sanctuary to 20,000 refugees who fled Syria.
Alex said: “The children drew some beautiful pictures to say thank you to all of the NHS workers, key workers and volunteers who have worked so hard during the Covid-19 pandemic. They are true heroes and we hope the video will bring a smile to their faces!”
