The Salvation Army in Mosborough, South Yorkshire, is celebrating 100 years of serving the community with a special concert.
The church and charity, which is based at Mosborough Methodist Church in Chapel Street, will mark the anniversary with a performance from Sheffield Citadel Salvation Army’s band on Saturday 15 November.
Mosborough Salvation Army hosts a number of activities throughout the week including a Friendship Café, an Arts, Chat and Crafts group, Bible study and Sunday worship.
Linda Foster, Mosborough Salvation Army’s church secretary, said: “We’d love to invite you to our 100th birthday concert. This is not just about celebrating the history of The Salvation Army, but about how we continue to serve the community.
“This is an exciting time for Mosborough Salvation Army. Earlier this year we moved into the Methodist church building and they have welcomed us with open arms. We’re talking to them about how we can work together to do more within the community, particularly in providing activities and worship opportunities for younger people.
“Our weekly Friendship Café, and Arts, Craft and Chat group are also thriving. We’re focused on reaching people who are isolated, encouraging them to come out and meet people to try and combat loneliness. We’ve had referrals from local doctors’ surgeries for people struggling with isolation or mental health. It’s been wonderful, people have really joined in and have found such friendship.
“If people need help with something like a food parcel, we will also signpost if we are unable to help ourselves. We will always do what we can to help people out.”
All are welcome to join the concert which starts at 7pm on the Saturday at the Methodist Church in Chapel Street. Tickets are £5 on the door or via Linda. Phone 07741 493751. There will also be a celebratory Sunday service at 3pm.
Each week, Mosborough Salvation Army hosts Sunday Service at 3pm, Friendship Cafe on Tuesdays at 10am, and Art, Craft and Chat on a Friday at 12.30pm at the Methodist Church Hall. On the first Saturday of the month there is also a coffee morning with books and bric-a-brac for sale.
