Junior Camp makes a splash as children dive into an unforgettable Under the Sea adventure

Laughter, excitement and plenty of seaside fun filled the Pioneer Centre in Cleobury Mortimer as over 50 children from across the West Midlands gathered for The Salvation Army's Junior Camp, embracing this year's colourful "Under the Sea" theme.
Open to children aged 8 to 12, the camp transformed the venue into an ocean-inspired world where young people enjoyed four memorable days packed with adventure, creativity, friendship and faith.
From the moment they arrived, campers were immersed in a programme designed to help them grow in confidence while making lasting memories. The underwater theme flowed throughout the camp, inspiring games, team challenges and creative activities that kept the children smiling from morning until bedtime.
Every day brought fresh opportunities for adventure, with energetic outdoor games, sports, crafts, music, worship, Bible exploration and plenty of opportunities to make new friends. Whether taking part in imaginative challenges, singing together or simply sharing meals and conversations, the camp offered a safe and welcoming environment where every child felt valued.
Junior Camp is always one of the highlights of our year, and this year's Under the Sea theme captured the children's imagination from the very beginning. It was wonderful to see new friendships forming, confidence growing and so much laughter throughout the week. Seeing children leave with huge smiles on their faces is what makes every bit of planning worthwhile.
The camp also provided opportunities for children to reflect on faith in engaging and age-appropriate ways, with interactive Bible sessions, worship and prayer woven naturally into the programme alongside the fun and activities.
Parents praised the welcoming atmosphere and the care shown by the team of dedicated volunteers who gave their time to ensure every child enjoyed a memorable experience.
For many of the young people, the camp was not only a chance to enjoy exciting activities but also an opportunity to build confidence, discover new talents and experience a genuine sense of belonging.
The success of Junior Camp now builds anticipation for the next major youth event in the West Midlands calendar, Salvation Army West Midlands Summer School 2026, taking place from Monday 3 August to Sunday 9 August at Denstone College, Uttoxeter, Staffordshire.
Open to young people aged 11 to 25, Summer School promises another unforgettable week filled with fun, laughter, music, dance, drama, art, worship, prayer, meaningful conversations, great food and countless opportunities to make lifelong friendships.
Organisers hope the enthusiasm generated by Junior Camp will encourage older young people to experience Summer School for themselves.

With another successful Junior Camp complete, organisers are already looking ahead with excitement to welcoming the next generation of young people to Summer School, continuing a tradition of creating life changing experiences that combine adventure, friendship and faith.
