Heather's story
For Heather, giving in memory of her father is a meaningful way to continue his kindness and generosity.
“One of my earliest memories was going on marches with my father,” Heather says. “He loved the music and what The Salvation Army stood for- it’s more than a church, it’s about helping people.”
That belief stayed with him throughout his life, and when he passed away, Heather and her family knew how they wanted to honour him.
“He didn’t want flowers at his funeral, so we asked for donations in his name to The Salvation Army. Friends and family gave generously, raising around £300. The funds supported summer activities at their local corps- helping children attend camp, including Heather’s granddaughter.
Continuing to give in memory of her dad is deeply important to Heather. Following his passing, she donates each year — something she feels he would have wanted. His legacy is already inspiring the next generation. Heather’s granddaughter has raised over £100 for the church through a sponsored walk.
“I am honouring my dad’s legacy in so many things that I do,” Heather says. “I often think, ‘Dad would be proud of me doing this.’”
A meaningful way to remember
Giving in memory is a thoughtful way to celebrate the life of someone you love, while continuing the values and causes that were important to them.
