Singleness Survey
Our territory is taking part in an international research project that aims to gain a deeper understanding from those who worship at The Salvation Army on their views, feelings and experiences of being single.
With more people getting married later in life, or not at all, it is imperative that the Church understands the complexity of being single today and provides a place of welcome to those who are single, whatever stage of life they may be in.
This is where you come in! The international Salvation Army would love to hear the perspectives of those who attend Salvation Army corps. As we have all been single at some point in our lives, all voices are vital to this research – whether single, married or anywhere in between — your insights are invaluable!
You are invited to participate in an in-depth questionnaire focused on gaining a deeper understanding singleness.
Examining the experience and challenges of singleness will help to inform resources and strategies that support The Salvation Army to be a place where those who are single feel welcomed, loved and valued, no matter what stage of life they are in. To learn more or to take part, visit https://sar.my/singleness or scan the QR code below before 31 July 2025.
Have Questions? Feel free to reach out to the research staff at International Headquarters at IHQ-DHS@salvationarmy.org for any inquiries.
Write to your MP to oppose the Assisted Dying Bill
Vulnerable people are at the heart of The Salvation Army’s mission. Our value of compassion calls us all to serve others and raise up the vulnerable whose circumstances mean that it can sometimes be challenging to make themselves heard. That is why The Salvation Army is campaigning against the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill – because some of the people that we support are worried by its impact on others like them.
We recently commissioned a survey to better understand the general public’s view on this Bill, which is currently making its way through the Houses of Parliament.
I’m sure you would be interested to know that, while the public support assisted dying in theory (78%), they are concerned about how this Bill will put this into practice.
Our survey found that many people believe that the elderly (63% highlighted this), the disabled (58% highlighted this) and those with mental health issues (56% highlighted this) were at risk of feeling pressured into applying for an assisted death.
A majority of the people asked (56%) are concerned that vulnerable people will feel pressured to pursue an assisted death because they feel they have become a burden. This includes 50% of those who support assisted dying in theory.
We are particularly concerned that those with the least in our society may be disproportionately affected. Poverty is limiting, painful and exhausting. It is coercive in its very nature and acts as a persuasive force in our communities and society as a whole. This Bill risks creating a two-tier system of death where those who cannot afford to pay for care may be forced to opt for an early death.
Will you join us in standing up for the most vulnerable?
Take action now and use your voice, write to your MP today.

Pause and Reflect
A Reflection of God’s Love
"The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him."
— Proverbs 20:7 (NKJV)
On Father’s Day, we honour the men who lead, love, and lift their families every day. A father’s influence runs deep shaping the hearts of the next generation. Proverbs reminds us that a man who walks in integrity blesses his children. That means the everyday choices a father makes—whether seen or unseen—leave a lasting legacy.
Dads, your quiet strength, your presence, and your prayers matter. Even when you feel unseen or unsure, know that your faithful steps mirror the steadfast love of our Heavenly Father. Your life is a living testimony, pointing your children to the goodness of God.
Today, we celebrate you and pray that you continue to walk closely with the One who is the ultimate Father to us all.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for fathers. Strengthen them, guide them, and fill them with Your wisdom. May they reflect Your love in all they do. Amen.

SUNDAY 15 JUNE: SABBATH PRAYER
God – the compassionate Father
‘The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him.’ (Psalm 103:13 NLT)
Father God, sometimes we fall into thinking that you are a remote God who doesn’t understand us, yet your word reminds us that you are a compassionate Father. We thank you, Lord, for those men in our lives who radiate your compassion, those who protect, care for and nurture us. This Father’s Day, we pray that they will be aware of your compassion for them right now.
Karen Findlay (Wellingborough Corps). You can find resources to support Father’s Day at https://www.salvationist.org.uk/resources/key-dates/fathersday
MONDAY 16 JUNE: SHARING THE GOOD NEWS
Boldness in talking faith
‘For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.’ (2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV)
Lord God, thank you for exchanging my fear for boldness through your Spirit. Help me to live boldly every day. Protect me as I lay down my fears and take up the challenge of going beyond my comfort zone.
Challenge: Think of something you find difficult when it comes to sharing your faith. It may be praying out loud, testifying, or praying with a friend. Pray that, as you lay down your fear, God will fill you with boldness. Know you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. Now make plans to do it! Major Jill Miller (Officer in Retirement)
TUESDAY 17 JUNE: SERVING AND CARING
Together 2025 (11-13 July)
‘Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.’ (Hebrews 4:16 NIV)
Jesus, as people prepare for the Together 2025 event in Birmingham, would you bless all those planning and preparing, especially the Events Team as they work hard to make things run smoothly. We ask you to put your hand of blessing on all the components of the event, which will include the commissioning of the Champions of the Mission Session. We also pray for territorial leadership as they prepare to minister throughout the event.
Major Gary Lacey (Territorial Prayer Coordinator)
WEDNESDAY 18 JUNE: GROWING IN FAITH
Intercultural Weekend (20-22 June)
‘After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language …’ (Revelation 7:9a NIV)
Being ‘intercultural’ is a willingness to enter another person’s culture as much as you want them to enter your own. As so many towns, cities and suburban areas become far more culturally rich, we need to learn how we can live together and journey together in a way that celebrates diversity and unity. Pray for the Intercultural Weekend, that it will be a time of deep connection, open-hearted learning and joyful worship together.
Lyndall Bywater (UKI Boiler Room Team)
THURSDAY 19 JUNE: INTERNATIONAL SALVATION ARMY
USA Western Territory
‘Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly …’ (Colossians 3:16a NIV)
The USA Western Territory covers the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming, as well as Guam, the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia and the Commonwealth of Northern Marianas. It operates in 14 different languages and serves a huge variety of communities. As you pray for the territory, speak these words from Colossians as a blessing over the ministry and mission of the USA West today. Pray too for the territorial leadership team of Commissioners Douglas and Colleen Riley and Colonels Eddie and Genevera Vincent. Lyndall Bywater (UKI Boiler Room Team)
FRIDAY 20 JUNE: JUSTICE AND RECONCILIATION
Refugee Week (16-22 June)
‘Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.’ (Hebrews 12:14 NIV)
We ask for peace. We recognise that violence of language and of action drives conflict. We see the millions of people displaced because of war and persecution. We ask that you help us to grow into people of peace in our communities. We ask that you empower us to be beacons of your light and love in dark places, and give us the boldness to challenge injustice and the will to seek justice.
From the ‘please’ prayer for refugees by Ben Still (Refugee Response Manager)
You can find the full prayers for refugees at https://www.salvationist.org.uk/resources/worship/praying-for-refugees
SATURDAY 21 JUNE: CARE FOR CREATION
God and Gardening – Lifting bulbs
‘There is a time for everything … a time to plant and a time to uproot.’ (Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 NIV)
It’s time to lift some of the bulbs which have finished flowering for the year, such as your tulips, so that they can be stored and replanted. As you tend your garden, pray for people you know who are coming to the end of a particular season in their lives, or are needing to take a break and have a rest from something they’ve been doing. Pray that God will wrap them around in love, and restore them for what is to come next.
Lyndall Bywater (UKI Boiler Room Team)
Do you have a prayer request? Please email us, use the prayer request box on our reception desk in The Hub, or speak to a member of the leadership team.
