The International Staff Songsters (ISS) has a special role at the forefront of Salvation Army vocal music making in the UK and around the world. They believe passionately in the power of music and singing to share God’s love and to bring people and communities together.
They were founded in 1980 to sing ‘heart songs’. Today, they carry on this founding legacy and sing a wide range of praise hymns, classical songs and contemporary choral music.
Wherever they go, they strive to introduce people to Jesus and his power to change lives. They are blessed to sing in many different places - in cathedrals, churches, concert venues, and Salvation Army centres - and every Christmas at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
Since their founding they have regularly toured other countries, including Argentina, Uruguay, Norway, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Kenya and several visits to the US and Canada.
As well as their ministry as part of the ISS, members are active members of their local Salvation Army corps (church) in different parts of England and Wales. We have a range of backgrounds and occupations and come together once a week to rehearse in central London (currently Regent Hall Salvation Army).
They are conducted by Dorothy Nancekievill who is a Honorary Associate of the Royal Academy of Music. Dorothy was formerly Head of Farringtons School in Kent and previously Director of Music at Wells Cathedral School.

Growth Group Online
Why not join us in the New Year? Growth Group online meets each week on Wednesday at 7:30pm via Zoom. Everyone is welcome. You don't have to have been to Growth Group online before, and you don't need to be a member of Maidenhead Salvation Army.

Boiler Room – Powerhouse
You are welcome to join us for our Boiler Room Prayer Meeting every Friday between 9:30am-10:00am in-person in the Prayer Room. Subjects will be provided each week for us to pray for, based on our mission and ministry and what is going on around us.
There is a Prayer Requests box on Reception (along with Prayer Request notepads) for use by corps members and hopefully, others who come into the Hall. We will pray those requests on a Friday morning too (unless they are marked Confidential for the CO only). Please do take advantage of this when it becomes available. We need to pray for each other! (as I know many of us do).
Pause and pray at 9.38am for future leaders
Every day at 9.38, you're invited to pause and pray for future leaders of The Salvation Army – inspired by Jesus' words in Matthew 9:38: ‘Ask the Lord of the harvest… to send out workers into his harvest field’ (New International Version). Wherever you are, simply set a daily reminder and take a moment to pray that God will send out people into his mission field. Watch a video from the Candidates Unit on www.salvationist.org.uk to find out more.
Who are we praying for?
- For those called to be spiritual leaders
- For those nearing or in retirement as they discern where they are called to serve
- For those living out Jesus in their workplaces
- For families called to be like Jesus in school, college and their communities.
If a calling to spiritual leadership is on your heart, talk to your corps leader or email vocation@salvationarmy.org.uk.
News & Information
Generous Discipleship
Thank you so much to those who made pledges during our Generous Discipleship renewal altar service last Sunday. There are still some envelopes to be collected from the bookcase in the Main Hall. If you did not participate on Sunday, and still wish to make a pledge, please complete it and hand it in to CS Linda Bain or CT John Renouf on or before Sunday 7 June before the information is collated by our adviser, Denise Wilkinson.
Gift Aid Update
We have now received details of our Gift Aid claim relating to members’ donations for the financial year 2025–2026. The Corps Treasurer will be contacting members individually in the near future to confirm the amounts to be claimed.
Candidates Sunday - 7 June 2026
We will mark Candidates Sunday on 7 June 2026 as we complete our sermon series, Called to Be. There will be a retiring collection for the Candidates and Cadets Training Fund that day. The Fund offers financial assistance for cadets during their training at William Booth College by helping to offset the costs of residential training, screening, and leadership development.
Mission Diary Attendance Figures
A big thank you to everyone who helped by counting and recording attendance figures for our 2026 Mission Diary over the past few weeks. Friday 22nd May was the final day for submitting the figures, and we are very grateful for all your time and support. Your help is greatly appreciated.
Annual Festival Naphill Village.
Saturday, June 13 from 1100-1600.
Our band has been invited to play at the Naphill Village Festival! We’ll be performing two 30-minute sets, with one of those sets accompanied by a flypast from RAF aircraft.
This is a well-established local event, organised by volunteers and the Village Fete Committee, with the aim of bringing the community together and raising funds for Naphill Village Hall.
As part of the invitation, we’ve also been offered a free stall where we can place a donation box, hand out information, and chat with members of the local community about who we are and what we do.
It’s a wonderful opportunity for us, and we would very much welcome the chance to witness and engage with the community in this way.
If you are available and willing to help with this event, please speak to Coral or Mark, who can provide more information.
It sounds like it’s going to be a fantastic afternoon out!
Together 26: This is us - be part of our story

Captain's Log
Called to Be Purposeful
Last week's sermon explored what it means to live with purpose - not just to be busy, but to know why you're here and to act on it. Drawing from Matthew 16, we discovered that when Peter got one thing spectacularly right, Jesus revealed Peter's purpose in return. The same exchange is available to us today.
First, knowing who Jesus is changes everything. Peter's declaration - "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God" - wasn't just theology. It was a turning point. Who we say Jesus is shapes the whole direction of our lives.
Second, Jesus hands the keys to forgiven people, not perfect ones. Peter had failed badly. But Jesus still trusted him with the keys to the Kingdom. The same is true for us.
Third, purpose is found by following, not waiting. Peter didn't discover his calling sitting still. He found it when he stepped out, spoke up, and acted. So will we. I want to say thank you again to all those who have prayerfully engaged in our Generous Discipleship programme renewal, and have pledged their time, talents, and treasure to God and The Salvation Army.
This week, think about the doors around you. The colleague under pressure. The neighbour you've never quite had a real conversation with. The family member watching your life from a distance. You don't need a speech. A kind word, a timely question, or a simple invitation can open a door. Start with one.
The keys are already in your hand. The doors are waiting. Go and open them.
In Christ.
Rob

SUNDAY 24 May: SABBATH PRAYER
What is the Spirit saying to the Church?
On the day of Pentecost, the disciples were bewildered and afraid for all sorts of reasons, but they were bewildered and afraid together, and that allowed for an amazing moment of encounter with God’s Spirit (Acts 2:1-9).
As you join your church community for worship today, whether in person or online, notice what happens in your togetherness: what does being together open up? What is possible when you’re together that wouldn’t be possible if you weren’t? What does the Spirit want to say to you in your togetherness today? Lyndall Bywater (UKI Boiler Room Team)
MONDAY 25 May: SHARING THE GOOD NEWS
North East Division – Intentional mission
Pray that we will be an outward-looking people, sharing the gospel with clarity and hope. Pray that we will be intentional in moving beyond hospitality and service provision to having conversations about the transforming power of Christ. Join us in praying that, across the division, the Lord will add daily those who are being saved, as in Acts 2:47.
Captain Naomi Clifton (Divisional Leader and Officer for Personnel)
TUESDAY 26 May: SERVING AND CARING
Dementia Café at Chesterton Salvation Army
We launched the dementia cafe at Chesterton on Friday 13 March this year; and though some people think of Friday 13th as an unlucky day, it certainly wasn’t for us. In fact, we had 21 people attend on that first day. Pray that the Café continues to fulfil a need in the community, and that those attending will feel that our hall is a safe and welcoming place to come to. Pray too that Jesus will be seen in everything we do.
Major Julian Rowley (Chesterton Corps and Community Centre)
WEDNESDAY 27 May: JUSTICE AND RECONCILIATION
Prayer in the Workplace
People can feel lost at work, sometimes because it’s a large organisation and they feel like a small cog in a big machine, and sometimes because it’s a small workplace where their colleagues know each others so well that they end up feeling left out. Think about your own workplace, or a workplace you’re familiar with: consider who might feel marginalised, unnoticed or ignored, and pray for them. Let’s pray too for all those who are looking for work, that God will give them strength for the search and help them to find work that works for them.
(Adapted from a ‘Prayer in the Workplace’ resource at www.thykingdomcome.global)
THURSDAY 28 May: INTERNATIONAL SALVATION ARMY
USA Southern Territory
The USA Southern Territory covers Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia and District of Columbia. We pray that God will open new doors of opportunity in these states, that seeds sown will bear fruit and that leaders will step up to serve in places where the Army has never worked before. We pray for courage and insight for the territorial leadership team: Commissioners Kelly and Donna Igleheart and Colonel Deborah Sedlar.
Lyndall Bywater (UKI Boiler Room Team)
FRIDAY 29 May: GROWING IN FAITH
West Midlands Division – Guidance and Growth
Pray that we will align with the Spirit in every expression of The Salvation Army in our division, and that people will be open and obedient to God’s call to leadership.
Major Clare Allman (Divisional Leader and Personnel Officer)
SATURDAY 30 May: CARING FOR CREATION
Praying with Nature – Rising
Many garden birds lay eggs in April, so May is when fledglings appear, scruffy, unsteady, and learning to feed and fly with persistent parental care. When you spot them, hold in mind the tenderness of beginnings.
- Pray the simple prayer: ‘God, shelter what is young and fragile in me.’
Think of someone stepping into something new, and lift them to God’s care. Ask for courage to trust that stumbling is not failure but part of growing.
Major Gordon Cotterill (Secretary for Spiritual Life Development)
