Boiler Room – Powerhouse
You are welcome to join us for our Boiler Room Prayer Meeting every Friday between 9:30am-10:00am in-person in the Prayer Room. Subjects will be provided each week for us to pray for, based on our mission and ministry and what is going on around us.
There is a Prayer Requests box on Reception (along with Prayer Request notepads) for use by corps members and hopefully, others who come into the Hall. We will pray those requests on a Friday morning too (unless they are marked Confidential for the CO only). Please do take advantage of this when it becomes available. We need to pray for each other! (as I know many of us do).

Family Matters
Beryl Tanner
We have received the news that Beryl Tanner was Promoted to Glory from her care home in Kettering on Sunday 18th May. Beryl will be remembered by older members of the Corps, and others will remember the short period she lived here in the ‘90’s while her daughter was in hospital.
Here’s a summary of Beryl’s background and connection with Maidenhead Corps: (written by Peter Hill).
Beryl (Dockerill) was born in 1940 to Salvationist parents. She grew up in Barnet and had one brother- Major Gordon Dockerill (R).
Beryl met Brian Tanner at the Students Fellowship. The Tanner family were very active in Maidenhead Corps in the 40’s/50’s & 60’s.
Brian and Beryl married in 1962. Brian became CSM at Maidenhead in ‘65.
In ‘66 they moved to Ghana where Brian was teaching. Subsequently they travelled extensively for over 30 years - working for the British Council, living in several African countries, Burma, China and the Middle East.
They had a daughter ‘Sandra’ who became seriously ill as a teenager, so Beryl came home and lived in Maidenhead for several years in support of Sandra. Sadly, Sandra died soon after leaving University.
Brian and Beryl retired to live in St Austell Cornwall in the late 80’s. Brian was a very active CSM at St Austell Corps. He died in the early 2000’s. Beryl moved to Kettering but was taken ill soon after and ended up in Care. For the past 6 years she has been a paraplegic needing to be moved from bed to chair etc by hoist. Her brother- in - law Malcom Tanner was ASM at Maidenhead and a well know solicitor in the town. He now lives in Devises in retirement. Funeral details will be advised when known.
Bon Voyage!
As we prepare to say goodbye to Charlotte, Clifton, Ethan, and Elliott as they return to live in Canada—and to Majors Richard and Jo Thompson, along with Charlie, Esther, and Violet, as they move to Blackpool to begin their new appointment—we gather this Bank Holiday Monday at 3pm to celebrate and give thanks.
Join us as we express our gratitude for their friendship and all they have contributed to our church family. We'll take this time to remind them that they are deeply loved and will be continually lifted in prayer as they embark on this new chapter, trusting God to lead them to pastures new.
Please note: Due to the weather forecast, we will now meet in the Community Hall and Hub at 3pm. Taryn and Simon have kindly agreed to provide the catering. If you would like to make a donation to cover costs, then please see either Simon or Taryn.

Retiring Collection for Gweru Citadel’s Helping Hand Appeal
As many of you know, Achuwa—a Salvationist from Zimbabwe—has been part of our corps family while visiting her son in Maidenhead, following the sudden passing of her sister. During her stay, Achuwa shared the needs of her home corps in Gweru and asked if we would consider supporting their Helping Hand Appeal.
Having spoken with her corps officers, Captains Chiedza and Webster Sandukina, we were pleased to respond by holding retiring collections over the past couple of Sundays. Through your generosity, we have raised £235.20 in support of their ministry.
Thank you for your kindness and willingness to stand with our brothers and sisters in Zimbabwe. Your support makes a real difference.

Singleness Survey
Our territory is taking part in an international research project that aims to gain a deeper understanding from those who worship at The Salvation Army on their views, feelings and experiences of being single.
With more people getting married later in life, or not at all, it is imperative that the Church understands the complexity of being single today and provides a place of welcome to those who are single, whatever stage of life they may be in.
This is where you come in! The international Salvation Army would love to hear the perspectives of those who attend Salvation Army corps. As we have all been single at some point in our lives, all voices are vital to this research – whether single, married or anywhere in between — your insights are invaluable!
You are invited to participate in an in-depth questionnaire focused on gaining a deeper understanding singleness.
Examining the experience and challenges of singleness will help to inform resources and strategies that support The Salvation Army to be a place where those who are single feel welcomed, loved and valued, no matter what stage of life they are in. To learn more or to take part, visit https://sar.my/singleness or scan the QR code below before 31 July 2025.
Have Questions? Feel free to reach out to the research staff at International Headquarters at IHQ-DHS@salvationarmy.org for any inquiries.

Captain’s Log
Last Sunday we continued our Frontline Sunday’s series by exploring Colossians 3:15-24, focusing on the powerful words: "Whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus. "We considered how all of our daily work and activities - however small or seemingly insignificant - matter deeply to God.
Paul's letter to the Colossians reminds us that representing Christ goes far beyond our Sunday worship. It extends to our homes, where we learn to practice mercy, kindness and forgiveness; and to our workplaces, where we're called to "work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people."
Key takeaways:
1. No job is more holy than another - preaching a sermon is no more sacred than digging a ditch when both are done for Christ.
2. Our work becomes worship when we offer every task to God, regardless of whether anyone is watching.
3. As Christians, we work first for Christ, then for the companies that write our pay cheques.
This week, consider what impression people have of Christ when they interact with you. Whether you're shuffling papers, sending emails, caring for children, or serving customers, remember you're representing Jesus in that moment. Ask yourself: "Can I really do this if I am representing the Lord Jesus?"
May we all find renewed purpose in our daily tasks as we recognise them as opportunities to bear witness to God's presence in our lives, doing our best for the highest in everything.
God bless you this week.
Rob Westwood-Payne
Captain.

SUNDAY 25 May: SABBATH PRAYER
Resurrection reflections – A climb and a call (Matthew 28:16-20)
This story finds the disciples up a mountain – probably one of the places where they’ve been with Jesus during his ministry. Are they hopeful for a glorious encounter, maybe another Transfiguration? What they get is a commission. It’s time to go – for Jesus and for them.
The Great Commission, as it’s called, is for all of us to play our part in. But what are the specific things which Jesus has commissioned you for in this life? Is it a public commission which everyone can see, or is it something more ‘unofficial’: a knowing deep within yourself that Jesus has given you a particular job to do? If that’s not you, then why not think about what ‘making disciples’ might mean in your life today. Don’t get caught up on how others do it. What does it look like for you?
(Lyndall Bywater, UKI Boiler Room Team)
MONDAY 26 May: SHARING THE GOOD NEWS
North East Division
Please pray for wisdom to discern what God is saying to us through our Mission Focus Groups across the division. In some areas we are seeing real synergy and a determination to minister in a collaborative way. Pray for Majors Mark and Linda Billard, our Divisional Officers for Mission, for a continued revelation from God as they facilitate these groups. Pray also for wisdom for the team as we hear feedback from our advisory groups, both the Divisional Advisory Council and youth and children’s groups. May we hear God speaking, and may we have the boldness to respond.
(Major David Burns, Divisional Commander)
TUESDAY 27 May: SERVING AND CARING
South West Division
More corps officers and spiritual leaders are feeling the pressures of their ever-changing roles. These pressures include being a pastor and delivering mission to their local communities, at the same time accepting more tasks such as increasing compliance, safe mission, HR, finance and admin, to the degree that it could be robbing them of their joy in ministry and is becoming overwhelming. Please pray for the ability to set healthy boundaries, a regular Sabbath, and to leave margins for a more joyful ministry.
(Major Gill Billard, Divisional Leader)
WEDNESDAY 28 May: GROWING IN FAITH
Kids Alive!
We pray that Kids Alive! will continue to grow seeds of faith in all the children who read it, particularly those without a background of faith; that each article and Bible comment will provide opportunities for families to come together to talk about faith and living healthy lives; and that, in an ever-changing world, children will know how loved they are by God, and be encouraged to live their lives following the example that Jesus gave.
(Cara Mott, Editor)
THURSDAY 29 May: INTERNATIONAL SALVATION ARMY
India Eastern Territory
The territory comprises the eastern states of India, as well as the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal. We pray for the work happening with children, families, elderly people and those in desperate need of food and accommodation. We pray for a deep sense of God’s presence in everything the Army does to build the Kingdom of God in India. We pray for wisdom and guidance for the territorial leadership team, Colonel Lalhmingliana Hmar, Colonel Lalhlimpuii Chawngthu, Lieut-Colonel Prakash Chandra Pradhan and Lieut-Colonel Rani Phula Pradhan.
(Lyndall Bywater, UKI Boiler Room Team)
FRIDAY 30 May: JUSTICE AND RECONCILIATION
Mobilising the Church for Justice
Prayer must lead to action, calling us to stand for justice and mercy. ‘What does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God’ (Micah 6:8). May Christians and churches be stirred to advocate for the vulnerable, offer practical support and speak truth in public life. May we reflect Christ’s love by standing for justice and caring for those in need.
(Captain John Clifton, Territorial Justice and Reconciliation Officer)
SATURDAY 31 May: CARE FOR CREATION
Marvellous Me!
Thank you, God, for the wonderful world you have made, and for making me marvellous!
For my eyes to see and my ears to hear,
For my nose to smell and my mouth to taste,
For my body so that I can move about and play.
Thank you, God, for making me so special and for loving me very much.
Thank you, God, that you made our wonderful world. Please help us to look after your world and each other.
(Rachel Gotobed, Outreach Mission Partner – Family Ministries)
