DHQ and Planned Maintenance
Work on the new DHQ Hub has started this week, and so there is no unauthorised access into the bunker, rear toilets, shower room, and meter room at present. Today’s (Friday 14th) update: the decorators are planning to move in a week on Monday, and the current plan is: Monday 24 - Wednesday 26 February: redecorate Community Hall; Thursday 27-28 February: start redecoration in the Main Hall ; Monday 3 March: probably the damaged area by the Musicians Room and/or start redecoration of Hub; Tuesday 4-Wednesday 5 March: finish redecoration of Main Hall; thereafter finish all other areas - hope to have a plan for that in due course. This is just redecoration and doesn’t include windows, etc.
The toilet renovations start on Monday 17th Feb. Please note that the corridor and parts of the building may be blocked temporarily where work is being carried out, so we will have to access the musician’s room from the main hall (and the kitchen when the ladies’ toilets are being done) and we may have to allow disabled access to the disabled toilet through the kitchen when the ladies’ toilets are being done.
Thank you for your patience and understanding while these essential works are carried out. We look forward to the improvements that these works will bring to our building.
Membership Survey from IHQ
In the link below, we are sending you a survey intended for all those affiliated with our corps and centre ministries: officers, soldiers, adherents and friends. It is important that no one feels excluded from an opportunity to participate in this survey. The subject matter is a survey on Membership for all within The Salvation Army. The purpose of this survey is to explore the clarity, relevance and practicality of the membership, as well as the support systems. The feedback will provide guidance for potential refinements to the membership of The Salvation Army making sure that our ethos and doctrines remain at the forefront of our organisations. To gain a comprehensive perspective of Salvationists on matters of membership, the widest possible range of stakeholder responses is vital for the success of the workstream, and the validity of its recommendations.
Please use this website link https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=mRKiDRnS9kal902qDsBUBA4kUmSQPTdGtN-RCvoW89FUMEZCN01NMzNZT1EzVlo0SlE1Sk9DQVAzRC4u
You will notice that in the survey there are several language preferences, please use the one that is most relevant. The closing date for this survey is 28 February, 2025.
Can we also encourage participation in two other related IHQ surveys which have already been communicated to you earlier, the links for these if you have not already submitted a response are :-
Soldiers' survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TSASoldierCovenant
Officers' survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TSAOfficersCovenant
More details about this survey and the rationale behind them has been sent out with this week’s Koinonia mailing, with paper copies available on the reception desk in The Hub. If you want to be part of this bigger discussion with the UK Territory then please follow the links above and complete your survey questionnaire on or before 28 February 2025.

Waste Collection and Disposal in the Hall
We are about to be subject to new waste disposal regulations at the hall that will expose us to a potential fine if we do not collect our waste correctly. We have ordered new bins for the kitchen and Hub area. As soon as they are in place, we need to begin separating our recycling, general waste, and for the first time, our food waste into separate bins. Please be very careful when disposing of something that you are using the correct bin. Thank you!

Strengthening Faith Through Life's Challenges
This week's Battle Drill Daily Devotionals explored the theme of strengthening our faith through life's challenges. We delved into how God uses trials as refining fires to purify and strengthen our faith, making it more precious than gold. The devotionals emphasised that our current struggles, while difficult, are part of God's greater plan for our spiritual growth and are incomparable to the future glory that awaits us.
Takeaways:
- Trials are opportunities for spiritual growth: Just as gold is refined by fire, our faith is strengthened through challenges. We're encouraged to view difficulties as chances to prove the genuineness of our faith.
- Our inheritance in Christ is unshakeable: Despite life's instabilities, we have an eternal inheritance that cannot be shaken. This truth should anchor us during uncertain times.
- Future glory outweighs present suffering: While we may face hardships now, the promise of future glory in God's presence gives us hope and strength to endure.
As we navigate life's challenges, let's remember that God is always with us, refining our character and deepening our faith. May we embrace his process, trusting he is working all things for our good and his glory. Stay rooted in his Word and promises, cultivating a resilient faith that can withstand any storm.
Battle Drill Daily Devotional Podcast This Week:

SUNDAY 23 February: SABBATH PRAYER
Steadying our souls – Trust Sometimes the world tries to tell us the lie that ‘God might not really have our best interests at heart’. We watch bad things happen to good people and we try to make sense of a world where pain and sorrow often seem more present than joy and hope. Sometimes our most heartfelt, faith-filled prayers go unanswered, and the disappointment mixes in with the fear that perhaps God doesn’t care after all. Yet Jesus encouraged his followers with the story of a widow woman who kept going, kept praying, kept trusting in God, and who eventually saw God set things right (Luke 18:1-8). Take some time to reflect on whether your faith has been undermined by the lie that ‘God might not be looking after you or those you love’; then steady your soul on the truth that God never leaves us or forsakes us, and choose to put your hand again into the hand of the one who loves you for who you are and who will make all things new. (Lyndall Bywater, UKI Boiler Room Team)
MONDAY 24 February: SHARING THE GOOD NEWS
Yorkshire and Humber Division Pray for our corps which don’t currently have officer leadership. In Yorkshire and Humber, we have 58 expressions of Salvation Army, and over 30 per cent of them are unofficered. It would be good to pray for the local leaders who have stepped up to take on extra leadership responsibilities in our unofficered corps. Pray that they will help their corps to continue to engage in fruitful mission. Pray too for the team at divisional headquarters, that we will have wisdom on how best to support these corps. (Major Caroline Heward, Assistant Divisional Commander)
TUESDAY 25 February: SERVING AND CARING
Yorkshire and Humber Division Our second prayer request would be for our youth and children, and their leaders. We have a great team based all over the division, who give their time to youth and children’s work in lots of different contexts. In the past few months, several of the team have undertaken Starfish training. Starfish is a mentoring programme for children between the ages of 9 and 16, and the ministry is going to be started in several schools across the division this year. (Major Caroline Heward, Assistant Divisional Commander)
WEDNESDAY 26 February: GROWING IN FAITH
Connection through music Pray for all those who engage children and young people in their corps music programmes around the UKI Territory. We thank God for the gift of music, which brings young people and adults together through brass groups, singing groups, community choirs and other activities in a unique form of discipleship. We pray that relationships will be strong, long-lasting and full of creativity, and we pray that the music that’s played in our corps will bring glory and praise to God! (Richard Prescott, Outreach Mission Partner for Children)
THURSDAY 27 February: INTERNATIONAL SALVATION ARMY
Democratic Republic of Congo Territory We pray for The Salvation Army’s work in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a country which has known much violence and trouble in recent years. We pray that God will give Salvationists grace to sustain them in hardship, faith to believe for miracles, and joy to spring up and overflow to everyone they meet. We pray for wisdom and strength for the territorial leadership team: Colonels Graçia and Lydia Matondo and Lieut-Colonels Dieudonné and Philippine Tsilulu. (Lyndall Bywater, UKI Boiler Room Team)
FRIDAY 28 February– JUSTICE AND RECONCILIATION
Anti-Trafficking and Modern Slavery Team - Volunteers Pray for all our volunteers who support and connect with survivors, driving them to safety, conducting interviews, supporting them with language classes and conversation, mentoring them and being available as they start their new journeys to freedom. (Major Estelle Blake and Major Heather Grinsted, ATMS Team) Boiler
Do you have a prayer request? Please email us, use the prayer request box on our reception desk in The Hub, or speak to a member of the leadership team.
