Captain’s Log - 16 March
Finding Hope in the Resurrection
As we gather this Easter weekend, we stand again at the threshold of Christianity's most profound mystery. The empty tomb that changed everything. Our Good Friday worship will lead us through the darkness of Calvary, whilst our Easter Sunday Celebration will burst with the radiant hope of resurrection.
Resurrection offers not just historical truth but living hope amidst life's deepest valleys. Christ's triumph over death becomes our anchor when storms of doubt, grief, and uncertainty threaten to overwhelm.
Takeaways:
1. The resurrection provides a "living hope”. Not wishful thinking, but active confidence grounded in Christ's victory over death.
2. Our present sufferings, viewed through resurrection's lens, become temporary shadows rather than permanent realities.
3. Faith tested by fire emerges more precious than gold, revealing God's redemptive presence even in our darkest moments.
How might we embody resurrection hope? This week, identify one situation where despair feels overwhelming. Each morning, intentionally declare: "This circumstance is not beyond the power that raised Christ from the dead." Then take one small, faithful step forward, trusting the same power works within you.
The empty tomb speaks a timeless truth. Death never has the final word. As we worship together this weekend, may we become living testimonies that hope persists, love endures, and new beginnings await all who trust in the Risen Lord.
With Easter Joy.
Rob Westwood-Payne

Commanding Officer

Farming and thankfulness
We drive our tractors daily but do not scatter seed;
We drill seeds into soil instead, which gives them all they need.
The sun and rain alternate, and adequately give
To provide all we need, and enable us to live.
He gives us skill and knowledge of what is bad and good,
So we can use it carefully while growing all our food.
We grow crops in rotation, thus husbanding the soil,
And it will still reward us for giving of our toil.
We drive a combine harvester which cuts and threshes grain,
Instead of binding sheaves which are then at risk of rain.
With sun, the grain is drier, and goes direct to store,
So there will be no shortage, which we are thankful for.
God will send us weather, but we must care for the environment, and all that is, on land and in the sea. (Wesley Paxton, Lockerbie Corps)
