Post Box
Dear Rob
I just want to thank you, the Songsters and the band for all your blessing with Susan’s service on Saturday. I hope it has brought people to see how the Salvation Army are and the joy we all have.
I have had so many great comments about the band and Songsters.
Please give my thanks to ALL the Salvationists at Maidenhead. I could not have done this without you all.
I know Sue would have been watching from Heaven.
God Bless

DHQ and Planned Maintenance
Work on the new DHQ Hub has started this week, and so there is no unauthorised access into the bunker, rear toilets, shower room, and meter room at present. Today’s (Friday 14th) update: the decorators are planning to move in a week on Monday, and the current plan is: Monday 24 - Wednesday 26 February: redecorate Community Hall; Thursday 27-28 February: start redecoration in the Main Hall ; Monday 3 March: probably the damaged area by the Musicians Room and/or start redecoration of Hub; Tuesday 4-Wednesday 5 March: finish redecoration of Main Hall; thereafter finish all other areas - hope to have a plan for that in due course. This is just redecoration and doesn’t include windows, etc.
The toilet renovations start on Monday 17th Feb. Please note that the corridor and parts of the building may be blocked temporarily where work is being carried out, so we will have to access the musician’s room from the main hall (and the kitchen when the ladies’ toilets are being done) and we may have to allow disabled access to the disabled toilet through the kitchen when the ladies’ toilets are being done.
Thank you for your patience and understanding while these essential works are carried out. We look forward to the improvements that these works will bring to our building.
Membership Survey from IHQ
In the link below, we are sending you a survey intended for all those affiliated with our corps and centre ministries: officers, soldiers, adherents and friends. It is important that no one feels excluded from an opportunity to participate in this survey. The subject matter is a survey on Membership for all within The Salvation Army. The purpose of this survey is to explore the clarity, relevance and practicality of the membership, as well as the support systems. The feedback will provide guidance for potential refinements to the membership of The Salvation Army making sure that our ethos and doctrines remain at the forefront of our organisations. To gain a comprehensive perspective of Salvationists on matters of membership, the widest possible range of stakeholder responses is vital for the success of the workstream, and the validity of its recommendations.
Please use this website link https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=mRKiDRnS9kal902qDsBUBA4kUmSQPTdGtN-RCvoW89FUMEZCN01NMzNZT1EzVlo0SlE1Sk9DQVAzRC4u
You will notice that in the survey there are several language preferences, please use the one that is most relevant. The closing date for this survey is 28 February, 2025.
Can we also encourage participation in two other related IHQ surveys which have already been communicated to you earlier, the links for these if you have not already submitted a response are :-
Soldiers' survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TSASoldierCovenant
Officers' survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TSAOfficersCovenant
More details about this survey and the rationale behind them has been sent out with this week’s Koinonia mailing, with paper copies available on the reception desk in The Hub. If you want to be part of this bigger discussion with the UK Territory then please follow the links above and complete your survey questionnaire on or before 28 February 2025.

Finding Balance in Work and Rest
This week's Battle Drill Daily Devotionals have explored the delicate balance between work and rest in our Christian lives. We delved into Paul's teachings in 2 Thessalonians 3:6-9, examining how our work ethic relates to our faith. The devotionals emphasised that while diligent work is important, we must be cautious not to overwork or neglect rest, as both are essential parts of God's design for our lives.
Takeaways:
- Work is a God-given responsibility, but it should not consume us or lead to burnout. We are called to find balance in our work-rest-worship rhythm.
- Our work, regardless of its nature, is an opportunity to serve God and others. We should approach all tasks as though working for the Lord.
- Rest is not a luxury but a biblical command. Taking time to rest demonstrates our trust in God's provision and allows us to recharge spiritually and physically.
As we go about our week this week, let's reflect on how we can invite God into our daily work and prioritise rest. Remember, our worth is not determined by our productivity, but by our identity as children of God.
May God bless you and guide you in finding the right balance this week.

SUNDAY 16 February: SABBATH PRAYER
Steadying our souls – Security
Sometimes the world tries to sell us the lie that ‘we are who other people say we are’ – that we are defined by the opinions of others or that we only have value if others think well of us. And sometimes our longing to live a holy life and to shine as a light for Christ can get mixed up with the fear that we will be rejected if we don’t do whatever it takes to please people. Yet Jesus encouraged his followers to remember who they were and whose they were: people chosen and loved by God, people in whom God has chosen to dwell (John 15:1-17).
Take some time to reflect on whether you’ve been drawn into the lie that ‘other people’s opinions of you define your value’; then steady your soul on the truth that God has chosen to set up home in your heart. Let that thought fill you with awe and wonder, and rejoice in the fact that God loves you for who you are. Nothing and no one can separate you from that love.
(Lyndall Bywater, UKI Boiler Room Team)
MONDAY 17 February: SHARING THE GOOD NEWS
Mission Conference (20–23 February)
In a few days’ time, hundreds of people involved in leadership at local, divisional and national level in the UKI Territory will gather at Warwick University for the Mission Conference. There are two conferences (A and B), to enable as many people as possible to attend. Pray for this event, that it will be a moment when earth and Heaven meet; a time of encounter with God and deeper connection with one another; a watershed moment for mission in the UKI Territory, with delegates going out fired up and freshly equipped for the exhilarating adventure of partnering with God in bringing life and hope. (Lyndall Bywater, UKI Boiler Room Team)
TUESDAY 18 February: SERVING AND CARING
Mission Conference (20-23 February)
The theme of the Mission Conference is Oikos, which means ‘household of faith’, with a focus on discipleship. The key text for the weekend is Ephesians 3:14-19. Pray for the main session speakers who will help to unpack this passage: Lieut-Colonel Drew McCombe, Rachel Jordan-Wolf, Adam Johnson, Rich Robinson, Elizabeth Oldfield and Bishop Mike Royal. Pray too for the many electives, optional conversations and taster sessions which will help give people a sense of the vast array of opportunities available for discipleship and mission. (Lyndall Bywater, UKI Boiler Room Team)
WEDNESDAY 19 February: GROWING IN FAITH
Encounter through music
Father, we thank you for the gift of music that inspires, comforts, energises and speaks to children and young people. May their discipleship journey be enriched through melodies that communicate your love, beauty and healing. Every note played and lyric sung is an opportunity for a divine encounter with their creator and creative God. As the Territorial Youth Band and Territorial Youth Choir meet this week, inspire them to continue to use their musical talents to seek and reveal your Kingdom here on earth.
(Lieutenant Jonny Whitmore, Territorial Youth and Children’s Secretary)
THURSDAY 20 February: INTERNATIONAL SALVATION ARMY
Taiwan Region
‘Since 1965, The Salvation Army has been established in Taiwan to serve the underprivileged in the community without discrimination. We have established a wide range of social services to meet the needs of the community, including assisting families with material needs, giving care and protection to vulnerable children and teenagers, caring for the senior citizens in communities and assisting those in need, regardless of age or religion. To us, every life is an individual and is precious.’
As the Taiwan Region celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, we pray that God’s Spirit will bring joy and gratitude for what has been, and fresh vision for what is to come. We pray for the leadership team, Major Sara Tam (Mei-Shun) and Major A-Tuan (Grace) Weng.
(Lyndall Bywater, UKI Boiler Room Team; quote taken from www.salvationarmy.org.tw)
FRIDAY 21 February– JUSTICE AND RECONCILIATION
The Anti-Trafficking and Modern Slavery Team
Pray for our team at Territorial Headquarters who, each week, are connecting with staff both within The Salvation Army and in other agencies, to be a voice for all those who need someone to speak up for them. Pray for our Director, Major Kathy Betteridge, our Deputy Director, Major Heather Grinsted and our Contract Director, Ann-Marie Douglas. Pray that they will have vision and direction for our work, and pray for them as they represent the ATMS Department in government and stakeholder meetings.
(Major Estelle Blake and Major Heather Grinsted, ATMS Team)
SATURDAY 22 February: CARE FOR CREATION
Praying for leaders
God, we pray for you to raise up a generation of leaders with the courage to take responsibility for our changing climate, and the part we have played in it. We intercede for our politicians and leaders; cause them to act in the best interests of all nations today and all peoples in the future, in order to avoid catastrophic changes. We ask for a generation of leaders who will be willing to act justly, so that those who have contributed so little to the problems we are facing, and have fewer resources with which to face them, are not left to shoulder our burden. We ask you to fill the hearts of all who lead rich nations; give them your mercy and compassion on poor countries already suffering the effects of a changing climate. Just as they have been moved to cancel debt in the past, encourage them also to release funds so that poor communities can adapt to the effects of climate change.
(Prayer taken from a selection of Church of England prayers for creation care)
Do you have a prayer request? Please email us, use the prayer request box on our reception desk in The Hub, or speak to a member of the leadership team.
