Transform lives with Ride Ready

Give people in need a new start in life

Across the UK, we’re transforming lives at our Recycles bike repair projects. Recycles is a social enterprise which supports residents from The Salvation Army’s Lifehouses for people who have experienced homelessness. Through providing hands-on work-experience placements, residents gain valuable skills through Recycles as well as building their confidence and aspirations for the future.

In many of the most disadvantaged parts of the UK, The Salvation Army is providing vital services for people of all ages. We can’t do it without you, especially now when so many people need us.

Volunteer for The Salvation Army

Volunteering with The Salvation Army helps us to make a difference to the lives of some of the most marginalised and underprivileged people.

Paul restores bikes at The Salvation Army, generating funds and serving the community.

"I couldn’t just sit at home, I like being busy, so I started volunteering at my local Salvation Army church, just doing odd jobs here and there until one day a bike just appeared in the back yard. I’ve always had a passion for restoring vehicles, I did a mechanic course at night school and so decided to restore the abandoned bike. I cleaned the frame, replaced the chain as that was rusty and used some oil and spanners from home - and it sold!

“I now volunteer seven days a week as the bicycle engineer at the corps. I like doing it, it keeps me busy, and it is fulfilling. I also like the friendship element it brings, the companionship. I live on my own so coming to The Salvation Army helps me to keep in touch with others.

“Helping other people and providing something that is appreciated is really something. Giving people access to a mode of transport is great, we even see people in employment that may not have a car but still need to get from A to B so choose a bicycle. As I did all those years ago as a community postman, I feel I am giving something back to the community, serving the community, like I used to.”
