Openshaw

We run a "Crafternoon church" event every month.  This is a great place for people to explore a Bible theme with craft, fun and a meal.  Aimed at all ages, it's really popular!

Worship Service 10.30am or 3.30pm

We hold Christian worship services in our hall in Lime Square.  You don't need to book ahead.  Just turn up.  Morning service usually on 2nd, 4th and 5th Sundays in month.  Afternoon service followed by a meal on 3rd Sunday and Crafternoon Church on 1st Sunday.  It can change - please check top of main page.

10.15am - 12.15pm Monthly Walking Group

Once a month we take a relaxed stroll up the canal, get a cup of tea and walk back.  Meet at our place on Lime Square.  Next walk: 16th July 2025 - 10.15am.  There's also an evening walk to Debdale Park on 21st July - 6.30pm meeting at Lime Square.

Thursday​

10.30am - 12.30pm Community Drop in & Job Club

Looking for work, need help getting online, want help with CVs, need to update UC, just want to chat - come and join us!  Computers and support available, eg. form filling, general questions.  Tea, coffee and toast all free!

1.15pm - 3pm Food Bank

If you need a food parcel, please get a referral. If you can't, please ring or email.  You will need an appointment before you come.

Tuesday Bible Study

We regularly meet together in our 'upper room' to talk about life and God and to pray together.  This is a great way to make deeper friendships and to be honest about life with God. 1-3pm

Community Drop In

Free drop-in on Thursday morning to help people get online, find work, create and review CVs, apply for and check Universal Credit or become more confident with computers.  Helpful people to provide support with forms or questions too.  Tea, coffee and toast.  10.30am - 12.30pm 

Food parcels

We run a small food bank for local people in need on Thursday afternoon.  We donate about three days of food to people, provided they have been referred by another relevant agency.  We always take time to listen to people and will provide them with additional contacts for further help whenever we can.  Because our food bank relies on donations, we are happy to hear from anyone who wants to donate non-perishable food to us.  

We are very grateful to Morrisons in Openshaw who support us through their store in Lime Square.

Clothes and household items

If people need clothing or small household items (eg. pans, crockery) we can offer them a choice from the stock in our charity shop.  As with food parcels, we accept referrals from other agencies for this.

Walking Group

Once a month we go walking - usually a Wednesday.  Not too far.  Not too long.  Fairly flat.  Routes are suitable for wheelchair users.  We always find time for a cup of tea about half way.  See Weekdays - Wednesday for details of our next walk

Bereavement

We do not offer official bereavement counselling, but we do understand grief.  We will happily listen to you whatever your story.  We will try and help you make sense of what is happening.  Please ring our office on 0161 371 5044 to make an appointment.

We work, pray and worship above The Salvation Army charity shop in Lime Square shopping centre in Openshaw.  

We are on bus routes 7, 171, 172, 219, 220 & 221

We are 10-15 minutes' walk from Edge Lane tram stop on Ashton New Road via Edge Lane and Wheler Street.

We rely on volunteers in lots of our work, especially in our charity shop and Job Club.

As a volunteer you will have a fulfilling experience helping our community. You could gain or build upon existing skills, friendship, confidence, work experience and team-work.  The volunteer roles we offer are interesting, flexible, and worthwhile.   For futher details on volunteering in our charity shop please contact us on 0161 371 1797.

The Salvation Army works with some of the most vulnerable people in society. Coming out of the worst public health crisis in our lifetime and with prices rising, people on the margins need us now more than ever.
 
At Openshaw we run an emergency food bank for people in crisis along with support with form-filling, job hunting, a listening ear and endless brews and prayer!  We'll do what we can.  Maybe you can help.
