We follow the Scottish Government’s Promoting Excellence Framework for Dementia Care and ensure that all care practice reflects the principles of protection, participation, prevention and partnership.

Our care team:

• Respects the identity, background and choices of every resident.
• Works in partnership with residents, promoting autonomy and independence.
• Recognises the impact of social isolation, loneliness and anxiety, and actively addresses these through meaningful engagement.
• Upholds dignity and human rights, and is trained to challenge and correct poor or unsafe practice.

Our management team lead by example and:

• Promote a learning culture, using supervision and reflective practice.
• Monitor care quality and resident outcomes.
• Ensure all staff understand their legal duties under adult protection and person-centred care legislation.

Communication is at the heart of everything we do. Our staff are trained to communicate effectively with all residents, using strategies that promote understanding, choice and participation, in accordance with individual communication needs and preferences.

Life stories and personal histories are used to guide care, build connection, and inform our day-to-day interactions.

Residents’ physical and mental health needs are supported holistically. We use evidence-based assessment tools and work in partnership with community healthcare services to:

• Manage long-term conditions
• Support mental wellbeing and emotional health
• Promote nutrition, mobility and personal care
• Prevent avoidable admissions and complications

All care reflects the principles of anticipatory and preventative care planning.

For residents living with dementia, we create environments and routines that feel safe, familiar and meaningful. We:

• Develop life-story-based care plans in partnership with residents and families
• Train staff in trauma-informed and relationship-centred dementia care
• Respond with empathy and understanding to distressed behaviours, recognising these as expressions of need
• Provide specialist interventions where appropriate, aligned with the Standards of Care for Dementia in Scotland

Activity is not an add-on—it is integral to care. We offer daily programmes tailored to residents’ interests, strengths and goals. Activities are designed to:

• Enhance self-worth and enjoyment
• Maintain mobility, cognition and independence
• Foster community connections
• Support creative, spiritual and intellectual expression

Our approach follows the Health and Social Care Standards which emphasise meaningful personal outcomes.

Sample activities include:

• Creative (music, art, crafts)
• Intellectual (reading, discussions, reminiscence)
• Physical (gentle exercise, gardening)
• Functional (helping prepare meals, setting tables)
• Spiritual (chaplaincy, prayer, quiet reflection)

Eagle Lodge offers:

• 35 single ensuite bedrooms across three floors
• Lounge and kitchen facilities on each floor
• A communal lounge and dining room that serve as social hubs
• Enclosed, accessible sensory gardens
• Family-friendly spaces for visits and shared time

Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms and treat the home as their own.

The home is led by a Registered Manager, Head of Care, and Business and Facilities Manager, supported by experienced team leaders, care staff, an Activities Co-ordinator, and a Salvation Army Chaplain.

• Day shifts run 7:30am–2:30pm and 2:30pm–9:30pm
• Night staff cover 9:30pm–7:30am
• Team leaders are on-site during the day, with management on-call at all times
• Staffing levels are reviewed using a validated dependency tool in line with the Care Inspectorate’s Safe Staffing guidance

All staff receive regular training and development, including:

• Adult support and protection
• Dementia awareness
• Infection prevention and control
• Communication and mental health
• Spiritual care and ethical decision-making

Staff are registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) and supported to meet their Continuous Professional Learning (CPL) requirements.
