Warrington Wolves spread festive cheer and new year hope to Warrington homeless community
The Salvation Army welcomed players from the Warrington Wolves into its Lifehouse (hostel) as a stand of solidarity and support to the homeless community at what can be for some one of the hardest times of the year.
Residents of James Lee House, a Lifehouse (hostel) run by The Salvation Army located on Brick Street, received festive treats thanks to the Warrington Wolves Christmas Community Blitz dishing out selection boxes, mince pies, boxes of chocolates and boxes of biscuits to members of the community that need extra kindness and support this festive season.
Debbie Rutter, service manager at James Lee House, said: “For some of our residents this time of year can be a time of reflection, anguish and sometimes an even more lonely period of their lives. Seeing local organisations and well-known members of the community come together to share love, offering gifts, encouragement and words of support, it can change their mindset and give a much needed boost for the start of a new year, showing that they matter, that people do care and that there is hope out there.
“Some of our residents have been through immense trauma and change and some have a long road ahead but being seen as a person, and not the label of homelessness, means that they can continue to get the much-needed support required to make positive changes to their lives. Everybody deserves to have some joy at Christmas time, and this generosity has done just that and so we thank Warrington Wolves and everyone involved in the Christmas Community Blitz.”
James Lee House has been supporting individuals in Warrington for more than 50 years and currently provides 54 beds for adults experiencing homelessness. Every resident received a selection box as part of the Christmas community initiative launched by Warrington Wolves.
