The Salvation Army thanks Cheltenham for record Christmas support

published on 27 Jan 2026

The Salvation Army church and community centre in Cheltenham today issued a profound thank you to the local business community, individuals, and dedicated volunteers whose extraordinary generosity powered its 2025 Christmas Appeal.

Thanks to an unprecedented outpouring of community spirit, hundreds of vulnerable families across Cheltenham and the surrounding areas received essential support, ensuring the festive season was marked with compassion and practical help.

The campaign’s success was visibly underscored by the performances of The Salvation Army brass band throughout December. At locations including the High Street, Marks & Spencer, Tesco, and various community events, residents not only paused to enjoy the Christmas carols but also responded with overwhelming financial support and encouragement, making this year’s appeal one of the most impactful on record.

Cheltenham Christmas Thank You

This collective effort resulted in significant outcomes:

*   500 food parcels were prepared and distributed, via partner agencies, to households facing hardship.

*   558 children and young people received brand-new gifts, bringing the joy of Christmas to families during challenging times.

Captains Rachel and Tom Dunham, leaders of The Salvation Army in Cheltenham, expressed their gratitude: “We stand in awe of the compassion shown by our community. From major business partners to individuals dropping a coin in a bucket, each contribution – whether financial, a new toy, or simply a word of support to our bandsmen and women – created a wave of kindness that touched countless lives.

“Our sincere thanks go to every business that hosted us, every shopper who donated, every volunteer who packed parcels, and every partner agency who helped us reach those in need. This was a true community endeavour. Motivated by God’s love, we are called to share that love all year round, and this phenomenal response empowers us to continue offering practical support, compassion, and hope to our neighbours in Cheltenham.”

The Salvation Army’s work in Cheltenham continues throughout the year, providing essential services, a welcoming space for friendship, and support for those facing life’s difficulties - integrating spiritual support with practical, welcoming action. Every Monday between 11am and 3pm the community centre’s doors are open to the community as its foodbank helps those in need of food and toiletries.

Mounted on the exterior of the church building is a defibrillator accessible 24/7, ensuring that anyone in the vicinity can use it in an emergency. Its installation underscores the Salvation Army’s commitment to creating a safer, more caring community for all. For more information about The Salvation Army in Cheltenham visit Cheltenham | The Salvation Army.
