Redditch Winter Warmer brought hot food and employment support

Residents in Redditch came together for a free Winter Warmer event that combined hot food, drinks and practical employment support at The Salvation Army Church on Ipsley Street.
The “Stew and Brew” Winter Warmer, hosted by The Salvation Army’s Employment Plus service, took place on Thursday 19 February and welcomed local people looking for work or friendly advice. Attendees were offered free homemade soups, hot drinks and informal one-to-one conversations with trained Employment Plus staff.
Visitors were able to access advice on job searching, CV support, training opportunities, and wider employability guidance. The session was designed to feel relaxed and welcoming, particularly for people facing barriers to employment or experiencing isolation.
Organisers said the event demonstrated the value of combining immediate practical help with longer term support focused on stability and opportunity.
Angela Takyar, Asst. Regional Manager for Employment Plus in the West Midlands added: “What we saw in Redditch was a simple yet powerful example of how little acts of care can lead to meaningful change. By meeting people where they are, offering warmth, dignity and trusted advice, Employment Plus helps individuals take positive steps towards work, training and a more secure future.”
The free event was part of The Salvation Army’s ongoing commitment to supporting individuals through practical help, encouragement and tailored employability support.
Last year, Employment Plus supported more than 5,000 people across the UK and Ireland on their employability journey, helping individuals build CVs, access training and secure work experience placements. The service also provides single intervention support, including signposting to foodbanks, housing services and other essential local support.
Employment Plus is delivered from 247 Salvation Army churches, centres and hostels, alongside work in 160 partner locations including Job Centre Plus sites and 11 prisons.
