Drop-in sessions running on Island to support people with money management and avoid debt struggles
The Manx public struggling with financial worries are being encouraged to attend free drop-in sessions providing essential budgeting skills in a bid to help people escape debt and manage their money more effectively.
Held at Douglas City Library, The Salvation Army will hold the sessions with its team of specially trained and regulated advisors and volunteers. Participants will learn budgeting skills, money management and how to prioritise essential spending.
Taking place from 10:00 am – 11:30 am, the first session on Saturday 18th April will be a budgeting workshop for students and the second session, taking place on Saturday 2nd May, will be geared towards people who are not currently in employment. Students, job seekers, and anyone wanting to take control of their finances can attend.
Debbie White, area debt advice co-ordinator at The Salvation Army Isle of Man said: “We want to empower people to take ownership and gain control of their finances, taking their next steps to financial confidence. Some people can find themselves in situations that are troubling and can be upsetting and overwhelming and with nowhere to turn, and this can cause both mental and emotional strain. We hope these drop-in sessions, which will take the form or an informal chat in a relaxed environment, will equip our clients with the skills to better their life and to enable them to have the power to change their life.
“For many people, budgeting is taken for granted and if not done correctly can make lives spiral. We want to work with people to find a solid solution. The Salvation Army’s mission has always been to help people in need and we work with clients who are in thousands of pounds worth of debt and those who just need a bit of support with budgeting in order to stretch their money. We know that the rise in the cost of living has pushed people’s finances to the absolute max and we encourage anyone that might be struggling to get in touch and let us help.”
More information about the sessions can be found by calling08081 624 606 or by emailing iomdas@salvationarmy.org.uk. The next group of sessions, dates to be announced, will focus around support for couples, families and pensioners.
The Salvation Army’s debt advice service is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
