Government launches consultation into funding of supported housing

“We are encouraged by the Government’s recognition that providing a ‘safe, stable and supportive place to live can be the key to unlocking better outcomes for vulnerable people’. As a national organisation and service provider with over 150 years’ experience, we know what it takes to support someone as they get back on their feet. It is vital that the future of funding for supported housing is secure for us to be able to continue to support men and women and families in rebuilding their lives after experiencing homelessness. Our services provide vulnerable people with more than just a roof; we offer a safe place to live as well as a wide range of personalised support options to help people regain their independence and put a halt to the revolving door of homelessness.

“Supported accommodation is one of the main pathways out of street homelessness yet the funding for this type of support has been under pressure. While we welcome the Government’s ambition to find a secure and sustainable funding solution, we do not believe that the model currently proposed by the Government can offer this much needed stability.

“The Salvation Army and Saha have a long-standing commitment to supporting single people who are sleeping rough or at risk of rough sleeping and we want to ensure that the new funding system works for those we seek to serve. We are committed to working with government to find a workable and long-lasting solution and are currently considering our response to the Funding for Supported Housing Consultation.”
