Dunstable Salvation Army marks 140 years with reunion weekend

published on 3 Jul 2025

For 140 years, The Salvation Army in Dunstable has been more than just a church—it’s been a lifeline, a place of warmth, and a beacon of hope for those in need. This weekend (5-6 July), current and former members will come together for a special Reunion Weekend, reconnecting over shared memories and celebrating the enduring legacy of service that has shaped countless lives in the town.

The event takes on even greater significance as The Salvation Army marks 160 years of ministry in the UK this week—a testament to its unwavering commitment to faith, compassion, and community.

Roger and Jacqueline Coates, who lead the Dunstable church said: "This Reunion Weekend is a beautiful moment in our 140-year story. It’s a chance to honour the past—the people who built this church, the lives transformed, and the love shared—while looking ahead to how we continue serving Dunstable today. Whether it’s through a hot meal, a listening ear, or a place to belong, The Salvation Army has always been here, and we’re as committed as ever to being a light in our community."

The public is invited to join in a weekend filled with fellowship, worship, and reflection, as those who have been part of the church’s journey—from longtime members to those who once found shelter or support within its walls—gather once again. Refreshments will be provided.

Dunstable 140 Years

The church and charity on Bull Pond Lane remains committed to serving people of all ages and backgrounds, building and nurturing relationships in the community.

From its community kitchen feeding people who are homeless to its social groups combating loneliness, The Salvation Army in Dunstable remains a vital hub of care, offering practical help and spiritual care to those in need. One key service is their food bank, which provides emergency food parcels to individuals and families facing financial hardship. They also run community groups, such as parent-and-toddler sessions and senior citizen activities, fostering connection and support.

Additionally, the organisation offers warm spaces during winter and homelessness assistance, ensuring vulnerable people have access to shelter and essentials. Through these efforts, The Salvation Army in Dunstable demonstrates a strong commitment to compassion and community welfare. This weekend is not just a reunion—it’s a celebration of 140 years of faith in action.  For more details on the Reunion Weekend or The Salvation Army’s work in Dunstable, visit their website:  Dunstable | The Salvation Army.
