The residents of 135 flats, in Wigan who were evacuated in the early hours of Sunday 14 June are receiving continued support from Thursday 18 June 2015, at The Salvation Army’s Wigan Corps (church), in Scholes.

The Church and charity's corps is being used as an emergency refuge centre where the affected residents can access information and receive refreshments.

Captain Mark Lewis, Salvation Army commanding officer at Wigan Corps, said: “We’re always here for the people of Wigan to walk alongside them and provide support wherever there is a need.

“Sunday’s fire will have a long-lasting affect both on the residents and the wider community and we’ll be here to offer pastoral and practical advice and help.”

Those affected by the fire can receive updates from the council at residence meetings at the corps which are taking place approximately twice a day. Alternatively, residents affected can call the council's emergency helpline – 01942 489014.

The Salvation Army’s emergency response vehicles were on hand to support the emergency services and residents on the day of the fire – supplying hot food and drink, as well as 900 mars bars.

This year The Salvation Army is celebrating 150 years of transforming lives and it is still at the heart of every community today, supporting those in need.
