Modern Slavery: What Would You Do? The Answers
Thank you for taking part in our quiz asking you what you would do if you were to spot the signs of modern slavery. Please read on to reveal the answers.
Question 1: A neighbouring house has several people living in their home. The individuals rarely leave, seem anxious, and are picked up and dropped off at odd hours. What would you do?
A) Ignore it - it’s none of your business
B) Knock on the door and check in on the inhabitants
C) Report it anonymously to the Modern Slavery Helpline or authorities
D) Post about it on social media
The best answer is C. Whilst answer B may seem like the best approach, it may not always be advisable to approach the property as doing so could put people in danger, including yourself.
Question 2: You meet someone who says they’re working but doesn’t know where they are, has no access to their ID or wages, and is afraid of their employer. What’s the safest next step?
A) Contact a local support organisation or helpline
B) Encourage them to leave immediately
C) Offer them money
D) Tell them to go to the police
The best answer is A. Contacting trained professionals can ensure the person gets safe, informed support without increasing their risk. However, if the person feels comfortable in doing so they should leave immediate and go to the police.
Question 3: A young person is seen begging regularly in town, always accompanied by an older adult who watches them closely. What could this suggest?
A) They’re helping a relative
B) They’re part of a family business
C) They’re just trying to earn money
D) They may be victims of forced criminality
The best answer is D. Forced Criminality involves exploiters forcing victims to commit criminal acts such as bag snatching, pick-pocketing and forced begging. You should report such incidences to the Modern Slavery helpline or the police.
Question 4: You see an online job ad offering high pay for unskilled work, with no interview required and vague contact details. What should you do?
A) Apply quickly before it’s gone
B) Share it with friends
C) Report it as suspicious
D) Ignore it
The best answer is C. You may want to do some background research on the employer to check their legitimacy. If you are still suspicious, you can report the activity to the main Modern Slavery helpline on 08000 121 700.
