The Appeal is open in Maidenhead from Monday 10 November until Friday 12 December 2025. We are unable to accept donations after this date as we need time to distribute the presents. However, if you telephone or email our area headquarters 01895 208800 or CSC-DHQ@salvationarmy.org.uk, they may be able to tell you of other local Salvation Army centres accepting donations after this date. Our hall (address below) will be open from 9:30am to 12:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays during this period to accept donations.
We are collecting new unwrapped toys and gifts for children who might not otherwise receive a Christmas present. The gifts will then be wrapped and distributed to those in need. We believe every child deserves a new gift at Christmas so we are unable to take used or second hand items for the Christmas Present Appeal. Here are some suggestions of gifts to donate:
0-3 years: dolls, teddy bears, cot mobiles, baby clothes, bath toys, CDs of suitable music and nursery rhymes, puzzles
3-5: dolls and action figures, cars, lorries, DVDs and CDs (music and nursery rhymes), colouring sets, pencils, crayons, books, puzzles
5-9: educational games & toys, stationery (colouring sets, pencils, crayons, school sets), CDs & family friendly DVDs, books, puzzles, wordsearch, crosswords
9-12: games and toys, stationery, CDs, DVDs, books, T-Shirts, hair accessories, gloves, scarves, hats
13-16: CDs, DVDs, books, make-up and toiletries (please try to ensure non-allergic ingredients if possible), gloves, scarves, hats, T-Shirts, hair accessories
Over the years, millions of children and young people have benefitted from gifts donated to The Salvation Army. By giving a gift to our Christmas Present Appeal you can make a real difference in someone’s life at Christmas. Thank you for thinking of us and those we help, especially at this time of year.
Be a STAR – Make a real difference to someone this Christmas
This Winter, thousands of people will turn to The Salvation Army for help in over 650 communities across the UK. We will be doing all we can for them, whatever their circumstances and this is where we need you.
You can donate online at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/thesalvationarmychristmas-2025-28?utm_medium=FR&utm_source=CL or at the top of this page.
Alternatively, you can post or bring in a cheque made payable to The Salvation Army (or cash, in-person only) to us at East Road, Maidenhead, SL6 1PJ.
If you live in the town of Maidenhead, then The Salvation Army in Maidenhead would love to give to you this Christmas.
Please ask us for a Referral Form to be completed by a frontline professional such as JobCentre Plus worker, a social worker, Citizens Advice Bureau, a children's centre or school, the local authority or your housing association, police or probation workers, or a GP, health visitor or other medical professional.
Once they have completed the form, they must return it to us Friday 12 December 2025 at the latest to ensure we can help you before Christmas.
If you live outside of the town of Maidenhead, then your local Salvation Army church may be able to help you. If you are unsure which one that is, then our area headquarters will be able to point you in the right direction - 01895 208800 or CSC-DHQ@salvationarmy.org.uk.
Unfortunately, we do not have any need of help over the Christmas period or on Christmas Day, although this is for the good reason that those we work with in Maidenhead all have family or friends they are going to be with over this period.
Other local Salvation Army centres may be in need of volunteers. You should telephone or email our area headquarters for further advice - 01895 208800 or CSC-DHQ@salvationarmy.org.uk.
Thanks again for thinking of us and for being willing to volunteer at this special time of year.
Our Band and choir engagements are now closed for this Christmas period.

As we commence the celebrations for our 140th Anniversary, we have the visit of The International Staff Band of The Salvation Army.
They will be giving a concert at St. Mary's Maidenhead on Saturday 21 February 2026 at 7:00pm.
Tickets go on sale from Monday 5 January 2026 at 7:30am, priced at £10.00 each - https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/booking/t-mjoogra
The International Staff Band (ISB) is the flagship brass band of The Salvation Army based in London, UK. This concert will be the very first one under their new Bandmaster, Jonathan Evans.
The Band was founded officially on 7 October 1891 by Bramwell Booth (then second in command of The Salvation Army) from staff at the international headquarters. Their mission is to “spread the message of Christ primarily through music and aims for the highest standards of Salvation Army Christian music-making.”
They perform concerts, lead worship services, appear on television and radio broadcasts, make recordings, and go on tours both in the UK and internationally. Membership consists of about 30-odd musicians drawn from across the UK and Ireland territory of The Salvation Army.
As the premier band of The Salvation Army, the ISB sets a standard for other Salvation Army bands around the world in terms of musical excellence, spiritual purpose and outreach. They help to reshape the image of brass banding: moving from public marches/campaigns to worship, mission and recording projects.
In Salvation Army context, bands aren’t just for concerts: they accompany open-air meetings, corps worship services, territory events and national gatherings. The ISB embodies that by combining high-quality musical performance with a clear Christian message.

Boiler Room – Powerhouse
You are welcome to join us for our Boiler Room Prayer Meeting every Friday between 9:30am-10:00am in-person in the Prayer Room. Subjects will be provided each week for us to pray for, based on our mission and ministry and what is going on around us.
There is a Prayer Requests box on Reception (along with Prayer Request notepads) for use by corps members and hopefully, others who come into the Hall. We will pray those requests on a Friday morning too (unless they are marked Confidential for the CO only). Please do take advantage of this when it becomes available. We need to pray for each other! (as I know many of us do).
Pause and pray at 9.38am for future leaders
Every day at 9.38, you're invited to pause and pray for future leaders of The Salvation Army – inspired by Jesus' words in Matthew 9:38: ‘Ask the Lord of the harvest… to send out workers into his harvest field’ (New International Version). Wherever you are, simply set a daily reminder and take a moment to pray that God will send out people into his mission field. Watch a video from the Candidates Unit on www.salvationist.org.uk to find out more.
Who are we praying for?
- For those called to be spiritual leaders
- For those nearing or in retirement as they discern where they are called to serve
- For those living out Jesus in their workplaces
- For families called to be like Jesus in school, college and their communities.
If a calling to spiritual leadership is on your heart, talk to your corps leader or email vocation@salvationarmy.org.uk.

Captain's Log
When Christmas Feels Too Full: A Simple Way to See the Miracle Today
Christmas can feel rushed and heavy, yet the heart of the story stays simple: God steps into our busy world with love and peace. These past few weeks we have been looking at how easy it is to miss the Miracle of Christmas, just as Bethlehem did. The town was full, tired, stretched by the census, and unaware that the Saviour lay only steps away. The shepherds heard the angels’ song and saw the Miracle. Their hearts changed because they slowed down long enough to notice God at work.
As Christmas Day draws ever nearer, we face a hard question: could we be so busy that we miss Jesus ourselves? Many of us carry pressure, grief. Some of us feel worn out by the season. Yet the angels’ message still speaks: “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people” (Luke 2:10 NLT). God meets us where we are and invites us to lift our eyes from our circumstances.
Three truths stand out. God works even when life feels full. God’s peace does not depend on our situation. God offers his gift of love to each of us. When we receive that gift, our outlook changes.
So here is a simple step. Take time each day over the next week to pause, to breathe, and to invite Jesus to speak. Ask him to help you see his presence in your home, in your work, and in your community.
May we not walk through this season unaware. Open the gift. Listen for the song. The Miracle of Christmas is for you.
With warm Christmas blessings.
Rob Westwood-Payne.
Captain.

SUNDAY 21 DECEMBER: SABBATH PRAYER
Love Shows Up in the Neighbourhood
In this week’s ‘Love Came Down’ Advent reflection, we reflect on the truth that God does not always show up where we expect him. When Jesus arrived, it wasn’t in the spotlight, yet it brought light to a dark world, and it’s in the deepest darkness that light shines brightest. In the final week of Advent, we receive the light of Jesus showing up for us – love incarnate, love divine. We ask God to keep us alert to the unexpected places where love might show up this Christmas. Adapted from the ‘Love Came Down’ Advent Week Four sermon starter at: salvationist.org.uk/resources/key-dates/advent-2025
MONDAY 22 DECEMBER: SHARING THE GOOD NEWS
Comfort and Healing
Lord Jesus, we pray for people in our communities who feel broken this Christmas. Guide them to local expressions of The Salvation Army, to hear the message that you came down to earth to bring healing. For all who call on you, you hear and are the Comforter. Work in the lives of those who need to experience your healing and restoring power this Christmas. Captain Cor van der Woude (Bury Corps)
TUESDAY 23 DECEMBER: SERVING AND CARING
Older People – Christmas absence
Lord, thank you for being our Emmanuel – our God with us, right here and right now. Wrap us up in that Emmanuel presence, especially in the moments over Christmas when we miss those whom we loved or who loved us. Fill the empty spaces of our hearts with the length and breadth and height and depth of your own love. O God, we trust that you are good and that your goodness is still at work for us.
Andrew Wileman (Assistant Director, Older People’s Services)
WEDNESDAY 24 DECEMBER: GROWING IN FAITH
Sharing the Christmas Message
Father, as we worship you, we are so glad that you came into the world as God’s only son and our Saviour. This Christmas, as The Salvation Army joins Christians all around the globe in celebrating the miracle of your birth, we pray that the blessing of your love will fall on our nation as we speak about the reason you came to earth, to the people in our communities, to our families, and to our neighbours. May your love pour down in the world this Christmas time. Major Gary Lacey (Territorial Prayer Coordinator)
THURSDAY 25 DECEMBER
Christmas Day
‘And the Word became flesh and lived among us.’ (John 1:14, NRSV)
Today I pray that we will be amazed again that the Word, who spoke the earth into being, is the same Word who limited himself. He put on skin and became human, to show his love for every human being. Today I take time to thank you that you are not a God who is far away, but that you are a God who wants an intimate relationship with me. Today, I say thank you, Jesus.
Captain Cor van der Woude (Bury Corps)
FRIDAY 26 DECEMBER: JUSTICE AND RECONCILIATION
Christ in the Margins – The Church and the dirty revival
Lord, have mercy on your Church,
for we have washed our hands when you called us to dirty them.
We prayed for revival –
celebrating when it is called ‘quiet’ but recoiling when it is ‘dirty’.
We have preferred clean answers to messy grace,
and patronised when our polished composure was upset;
let repentance be our renewal,
and may your Spirit rise again from within the neglected classes.
Amen. Captain John Clifton (Divisional Commander, North East Division)
SATURDAY 27 DECEMBER: CARE FOR CREATION
Care in Rest
Lord Jesus, I pray for all those officers and leaders who have given so much over Christmas, wanting to make it special for everyone. I pray that the essence and joy of Christmas will not get lost in tiredness or burnout. I pray that they will have wisdom to take time to rest, to step back and realise again how much they are loved by the Christ Child. Captain Cor van der Woude (Bury Corps)
Do you have a prayer request? Please email us, use the prayer request box on our reception desk in The Hub, or speak to a member of the leadership team.

If you wish to proceed, then the next step will be for me to draw up a Licence Agreement (a legally binding contract that protects the interests of both parties) in the name of an individual or company in respect of your group for signature prior to the event.
