You are welcome to join us for our Boiler Room Prayer Meeting every Friday between 9:30am-10:00am in-person in the Prayer Room. Subjects will be provided each week for us to pray for, based on our mission and ministry and what is going on around us.
There is a Prayer Requests box on Reception (along with Prayer Request notepads) for use by corps members and hopefully, others who come into the Hall. We will pray those requests on a Friday morning too (unless they are marked Confidential for the CO only). Please do take advantage of this when it becomes available. We need to pray for each other! (as I know many of us do).
Summer Vibes
Campfire Faith (2 Timothy 1:6)
"Fan into flames the gift of God, which is in you..."
Summer nights around a campfire are unforgettable—stories, sparks, and glowing warmth. In your spirit, there's a fire too. Are you feeding it or letting it fade? This season, revisit your calling, rekindle your passion, and ask God to set your heart ablaze again.
"God, fan into flame the gifts You’ve given me. Let me burn brightly with purpose and passion."

Design for Life
19th – 21st September 2025 & 23rd-25th January 2026
Design for Life (DFL) is a weekend retreat at William Booth College to help you discover God's design for your life. Everyone is called by God to be salt and light in the world, and that world is different for individuals. Some people are called to be homemakers, some people work out their vocation in schools or hospitals, others serve as ministers or Salvation Army officers, and some people's journey takes them to other countries or to work in their local area. Over the weekend you’ll be encouraged to reflect on where you’ve been, look at where you are now and listen to God about the future.
DFL is for anyone over 18 seeking God’s design for their life. No one form of ministry, vocation or service is promoted at a DFL weekend. Whether you’re near the beginning of your journey and want to scan the horizon or you’ve been travelling a certain route and want to stop and reflect, DFL is for you!
Please speak to Captain Rob for more details, and he will put you in touch with TE Roger Coates or Captain Sarah Pitts who promote DFL in the division.
Together 2025 packs in inspiring celebrations for our 160th
Powerful prayer, praise and worship featured at our gathering in Birmingham, along with a challenge to all to be living examples of grace and forgiveness, sharing the message of God’s love from generation to generation. We celebrated the commitment to officer-ministry of the Champions of the Mission session of cadets who were ordained and commissioned. Salvationists and friends also took to the city streets with a prayer-walk and connected with each other and the community through outreach pop-ups featuring music, arts and sports.
Our International Staff Band and Songsters, supported by the visiting Canadian Staff Songsters, kicked off the weekend with a Friday evening concert and our weekend celebrations included worship led by our in-house worship group, MACA Dance and our international and territorial leaders, General Lyndon Buckingham and Commissioner Bronwyn Buckingham and Commissioners Jenine and Paul Main.
If you missed out in person, why not watch the recordings of the main sessions from Saturday and Sunday on our YouTube channel and look out for reports in Salvationist and online at salvationist.org.uk
Did you see our anniversary celebrated on BBC One's Songs of Praise?
If you missed Songs of Praise on Sunday 13 July, celebrating 160 years of The Salvation Army, you can still catch it on BBC iPlayer. The episode features our Territorial Leader Commissioner Jenine Main who discusses the origins of The Salvation Army, and retired members of the International Staff Band Major George Whittingham and Lieut-Colonel Maurice Cooper. There's also a visit to our double-decker bus outreach in Mitcham, along with music from Salvation Army musicians, choirs and congregations.
The Salvation Army responds to catastrophic Texas floods
Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services teams in the USA are working to provide meals, drinks and emotional and spiritual care to communities in Central Texas, after devastating flooding on 4 July. Emergency canteens have been deployed at emergency shelters. Local Salvation Army organisers ask for continued prayer for those who have lost family members and for first responders and volunteers.

Captain's Log
The Diamond Principle: Why Your Hardest Days Matter Most
Last Sunday we were reminded of the truth that diamonds only form under pressure. Just as carbon transforms into precious gems through intense heat and compression, God uses our deepest struggles to shape us into reflections of Christ.
This isn't about God causing our pain - our broken world does that well enough all by itself. Rather, it's about God's masterful ability to weave even our darkest moments into a tapestry of transformation. He specialises in bringing good from bad, resurrections from crucifixions.
Key Takeaways:
• God's purpose remains constant - His primary goal isn't our comfort but our character. He chose us to become like his Son, developing love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control through every circumstance.
• "But not" changes everything - Paul felt pressed but not crushed, perplexed but not despairing. The difference wasn't his strength - it was God's power. We may reach the end of our rope, but never the end of our hope.
• Questions shape our response - Instead of asking "Why is this happening?", we can ask "What do you want me to learn?" This shift transforms victimhood into discipleship, turning our brokenness into blessing.
This week, identify one area of pressure in your life. Rather than praying for its removal, try praying: "Lord, how can this make me more like Jesus?" Write down what comes to mind - you might be surprised by the answer.
Remember, you're not alone in this process. I'm here if you need support.
Every diamond was once just carbon under pressure. Trust the Master Jeweller's hands.
God bless you this week.

SUNDAY 27 JULY: SABBATH PRAYER
Welcome Sunday
As officers take up new appointments today, pray that they will sense the moving of the Holy Spirit right from the very beginning of their ministry in their new places. Pray that God will help them find people to collaborate with in mission and action, and friends to help them relax and enjoy life. Pray too that they will find people to give them prayer support. (Lyndall Bywater, UKI Boiler Room Team)
MONDAY 28 JULY: SHARING THE GOOD NEWS
Territorial Music School (26 July to 2 August)
As it says in Matthew 5:14, ‘You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden’ (NRSV). We pray that the Territorial Music School shines with that same light, which is undeniable, unwavering, and deeply inspiring to all it touches.
(Chris Shanks, Territorial Music School Staff Team)
TUESDAY 29 JULY: SERVING AND CARING
Territorial Music School (26 July to 2 August)
Pray for the staff team, that God will give us energy, patience and the right words at the right time, and that we will be able to show God to the students through our actions. Pray too that we will have the tools we need to deal with the various situations we find ourselves in during the week, and that God will use us to encourage and support both each other and the delegates.
(Cheryl Northwood and Hilary Bromage, Territorial Music School Staff Team)
WEDNESDAY 30 JULY: GROWING IN FAITH
Territorial Music School (26 July to 2 August)
We pray for those decisions and commitments that will be made during this week, and the fruit they will bear all around the territory afterwards. We also pray that the unique culture which participants of the Territorial Music School experience while they are together will transfer into all expressions of worship in the territory.
(Callum McKenna and Nick Brill, Territorial Music School Staff Team)
THURSDAY 31 JULY: INTERNATIONAL SALVATION ARMY
Switzerland, Austria and Hungary Territory
We give thanks for the work of The Salvation Army in Switzerland, Hungary and Austria, and pray that its mission will go from strength to strength. We pray for boldness in witness, wisdom in strategy and adventurousness in faith. We pray for the territorial leadership team of Commissioners Henrik and Lisbeth Andersen, and Lieut-Colonels Daniel and Heidi Imboden. (Lyndall Bywater, UKI Boiler Room Team)
FRIDAY 1 August: JUSTICE AND RECONCILIATION
The blessing of holidays
Lord, thank you for the summer holidays. Thank you that the rhythm in education includes breaks – time to slow down, for different experiences and less pressure. Please teach us all to rest, and to know that the world keeps turning when we stop, because you are in control. Some families will struggle this summer, worried about food, money or the expectations of providing a great holiday. Lord, will you help people discover joy from simple things, from being together and finding community – and may we be ready to serve where you need us. Captain Kat Whitmore (Territorial Youth and Children’s Secretary)
SATURDAY 2 August: CARE FOR CREATION
Reflection – listening well
Lord, may we listen when children and young people speak to us about what you are saying to them. May we expect to hear your voice coming through them, and may we expect your challenge to us to come from them. When they tell us what concerns them and what matters to them, may we hear your heart in what they say.
Hannah Willis (Divisional Children’s Worker, Central and Southern Scotland Division)
Do you have a prayer request? Please email us, use the prayer request box on our reception desk in The Hub, or speak to a member of the leadership team.
