Photo & Media Policy

The Salvation Army takes the use of images seriously as part of its safeguarding responsibility.
In line with Salvation Army International Headquarters' policy:

• No photographs, video recordings or other images of individuals (including children and adults) may be taken or used without their informed consent.
• Consent must be explicit, typically via an official consent form.
• Images must only be used for the purposes agreed and must be stored securely.

For children and young people, consent must always be obtained from a parent or legal guardian.
For adults at risk, additional safeguarding considerations apply.

What This Means for Our Local Church

To help keep everyone safe:

• We will always ask permission before taking or sharing photos or videos at events, groups or Sunday worship.
• For children’s groups, written permission from parents/caregivers is required.
• Photos will never be taken or used in a way that risks safety, dignity or privacy.
• Anyone can withdraw their consent at any time.

At the Table — Growing in Faith and Belonging

At Hackney Mare Street Salvation Army, we believe something special happens when people gather around tables. Conversation becomes easier, relationships grow naturally, and faith feels grounded and connected. That’s why most of our services take place around tables, creating a relaxed, friendly atmosphere where everyone has a place.

Our Sunday gatherings are filled with opportunities to sing, enjoy relevant Bible teaching, and take moments for prayer and reflection. There’s plenty of space for conversation, whether you want to explore faith, meet new people, or simply enjoy being part of a community.

You can help yourself to tea and coffee, take part in creative activities, and make use of our toddler play area, making our services accessible and welcoming for all ages.

Whether you’re exploring faith for the first time, returning after a break, or looking for a warm, inclusive community, you’re invited to find your place with us.

There’s always a seat for you at the table.

Musical Tots 🎶
Tuesdays | 9:30am–11:30am (Term-time only)

Come and join the fun with the little ones you care for! Sing along to favourite songs, play games, and enjoy a relaxed, friendly space to meet other parents and carers.

The group is just £1 per family per week, with tasty snacks provided for both children and adults 

After the session, you’re very welcome to stay for our baby and toddler lunch space — bring your own lunch and we’ll provide the tea and coffee. A lovely way to wind down and chat after all the musical fun!

The Music Man Project – Hackney Launch Event

We are thrilled to announce the official launch of The Music Man Project Hackney, an inclusive musical workshop for adults with disabilities.

To mark this special beginning, we are honoured to welcome David Stanley BEM, Founder and CEO of The Music Man Project, who will personally launch our new group. He will be joined by Global Ambassadors from the organisation—performers who have appeared at prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall and London Palladium.

What Is The Music Man Project?

The Music Man Project is a multi‑award‑winning, fully accessible music education and performance service for adults and children with learning disabilities. It provides opportunities to learn instruments, sing, sign, and participate in uplifting group music-making. The project emphasises education, enjoyment, confidence-building, and performance opportunities for people of all abilities. 

Founded by David Stanley in 2000, the project has grown into a global movement, with performers featuring at world-renowned venues—including the Royal Albert Hall, the London Palladium, and international stages in the USA, Canada, and Italy. The Music Man Project has also received the King’s Award for Voluntary Service, recognising its transformational impact on perceptions of learning-disabled musicians. 

This unique approach is not music therapy, but fully accessible music tuition that gives people with learning disabilities the same opportunities for practical, live group music-making enjoyed in mainstream settings—often leading to major public performances and world-record achievements.

Our Employment Plus service is a free service that exists to support individuals around employment, benefits, housing and wellbeing in Hackney and beyond.

Every Monday (excluding bank holidays), 10am–12:30pm, we come together for a vibrant, welcoming workshop where old clothes are transformed and new ideas take shape. This is more than learning to sew — it’s about rethinking fashion, building confidence, and giving garments a second life.

You’ll learn practical sewing and upcycling skills, explore your own creativity, and be part of a friendly community that cares about the planet as much as self-expression. Whether you’re a total beginner or already handy with a needle, there’s space to learn, share, and make new friends along the way.

The workshops are free to attend, with donations welcome — just bring your curiosity and a willingness to create something meaningful. Together, we’re reducing waste, building skills, and proving that sustainable fashion can be fun, social, and empowering.
