Help us be there for those in need this winter, experiencing hardship
We all know how miserable winter can be. But imagine how terrible it is if you don’t have a roof over your head, or you are freezing and ill because you can’t afford to turn the heating on, or you are too poor to buy food for your family.
When he came to see us one freezing day, Andy was in a terrible state. He was homeless and, as he says himself, ‘I had given up. I wasn’t washing. I only had a coat to keep me warm, not even a sleeping bag.’
But fortunately, a concerned passer-by saw the state he was in and suggested he go to The Salvation Army for help. It turned out to be the best thing that had happened to him in years.
That was when Andy knew he had to get help. Since then, we’ve helped him a lot, but the big turning point came when we offered him a place at one of our Lifehouses (residential centres for people experiencing
homelessness).
For Andy, it’s been the first step towards getting his life back together. And the good news is that, with our loving care and patient support, Andy’s life is very much on the mend. Andy says:
We have helped him to live a more independent life, by eating properly, managing his money and setting up a bank account. We need your support to give people experiencing homelessness not only shelter, but the support they need to start their lives afresh, including medical help, life skills training and employment advice.
How does my donation make a difference?
- £9 could provide a welcome pack for a homeless person in one of our residential centres (Lifehouses).
- £19 could contribute towards a food parcel to feed a desperate, hungry person.
- £30 could pay for one week’s electricity top-up for a family struggling to make ends meet.
- £48 could provide one hour of social enterprise training for three homeless people in one of our residential centres (Lifehouses).
Please be assured that your gift will be used wisely.
