Social Media Community Guidelines

Welcome to The Salvation Army’s Community Guidelines and House Rules, we’re glad you’re here.

We want to keep our social media channels a kind and respectful space for all our followers. We're sure you do too.

We have some House Rules for our online community to follow, to make sure digital experiences are safe, enjoyable and allow open discussion. Strong and connected communities are at the heart of The Salvation Army's channels, so thank you for joining ours and helping us to keep this a safe space.

House Rules:

  • Be respectful of others, even when opinions differ from yours

  • Stay on topic and keep comments relevant to the post

  • Protect your privacy and other people’s privacy online

  • Fact-check before posting or replying to factual claims. If something includes a statistic, quote or claim presented as fact, make sure you check the source first

  • Do not share links to external websites

  • No harassment, intimidation or targeting individuals or groups

  • Respect individuals, staff, volunteers, groups, people with lived experience and people featured in our content

  • Do not harass, bully or target other people in the comments

  • Remember there are real human beings behind every post and comment, including The Salvation Army’s

We may hide or remove comments that:

  • are abusive, threatening, hateful or discriminatory

  • contain swearing or offensive language

  • spread misinformation or disinformation

  • are deliberately inflammatory, provocative or intended to disrupt discussion

  • impersonate another person or organisation

  • share personal or private information like phone numbers, bank details or addresses

  • promote unlawful or unsafe activity

  • advertise products or services for profit

  • encourage harm to anyone’s safety or wellbeing, including your own

  • demean, mock or target people or communities

  • are intended to provoke, derail discussions or repeatedly breach these guidelines. Profile anonymity, repetitive breach of community guidelines, copying and pasting the same response are all indicators of trolling

If someone repeatedly ignores these rules or behaves in a way that harms the community, we may hide, remove, restrict or report content/accounts - or ultimately block them from engaging with our channels.

Thanks for being here and helping us keep this community safe and welcoming of everyone.
