Residents and staff of The Salvation Army Witham Lodge in Skegness recently demonstrated their community spirit by taking part in a litter-picking initiative to help keep the town clean and welcoming for residents and visitors.
Witham Lodge is The Salvation Army's supported accommodation service in Skegness, providing housing and personalised support for people experiencing homelessness.
Equipped with litter grabbers, gloves and refuse sacks, the group spent several hours collecting discarded rubbish from local streets and public spaces, helping to keep the area clean and reinforcing their desire to make a positive contribution to the community.
The event brought residents and staff together in a shared effort to improve the local environment while encouraging teamwork, confidence and personal wellbeing. By the end of the day, participants had collected numerous bags of litter, making a visible difference to the area.
One participant, Sarah Jones, described the litter pick as a valuable opportunity to work alongside others.
She said: "I enjoyed meeting people and working as part of a team. I'm delighted that I can contribute to my community in a meaningful way."
Residents and passers-by stopped to thank the group as they worked, with many expressing appreciation for their efforts.
Witham Lodge resident, David Thompson said the day offered benefits beyond simply cleaning the local area.
"Being outdoors, working alongside other people and doing something positive for the community was really therapeutic. It helped me clear my mind, feel more connected to others and gave me a real sense of purpose. By the end of the day, I felt proud of what we'd achieved together."
The successful event reflects Witham Lodge's ongoing commitment to supporting individuals in leading active and meaningful lives while fostering strong connections within the local community.
As the final bags of rubbish were collected and the equipment packed away, there was a strong sense of achievement among everyone involved. Participants are already looking forward to future community projects and continuing their efforts to make a positive difference across Skegness.
Witham Lodge helps residents rebuild their lives, develop independent living skills and become active members of their local community.
