Salvation Army nursery celebrates ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rating

published on 5 Aug 2016

Children and staff at The Haven Salvation Army nursery are celebrating after receiving the highest rating, ‘Outstanding’, from the childcare inspectorate Ofsted.

Based within The Salvation Army’s Haven Community Centre in the heart of Portsmouth, the nursery provides childcare to babies, toddlers and pre-school children from a diverse range of backgrounds and countries. Over 12 different languages are spoken by the children across the nursery, for many of whom English is their second or third language.

Natalie Hanchett, Haven Community Programme Director, said: “This is fantastic news and is testament to the brilliant work of our nursery staff team. To have received an Outstanding rating from Ofsted is great. It shows that The Salvation Army is helping children to have the very best start in their early years development in the city of Portsmouth.”.

In her report, Ofsted Inspector Julie Bruce, said: “Staff have superb relationships with parents and consistently speak to them about children's developing interests and how they play. They teach brilliantly and plan activities that rapidly develop children's learning. Children's behaviour is always excellent and staff demonstrate kind behaviour extremely well for them. Children always wait their turn and share toys with friends. They display high levels of self-motivation and like to investigate and play in a calm and happy environment”.
