Brecon will be the setting for a special celebration through music and worship on 23 and 24 September, as The Salvation Army celebrates 143 years since it began in Wales.

The Revival Congress will bring more than 400 Salvationists from 34 Salvation Army centres and churches across south and mid Wales to the town for the weekend.

As part of the celebrations, Salvation Army bands and singers will be performing in Brecon town centre on Saturday 23 September from 12pm to 4pm.

And on Sunday 24 September, there will be a gathering in Theatr Brycheiniog for activities including a youth council and an all-ages worship session.

The Revival Congress is being organised by the Salvation Army’s south and mid Wales division and led by Divisional Leaders Lieutenant-Colonels João Paulo and Karin Ramos.

Special guests for the weekend in Brecon are The Salvation Army’s territorial leaders in Eastern Europe, Colonels Wendy and Rodney Walters.

“This weekend’s Revival Congress brings The Salvation Army back to Brecon with a joyous celebration of The Salvation Army through music and worship” said Lieutenant-Colonel João Paulo Ramos.

“On Saturday, our members will be taking their faith out on the streets of Brecon and there will be music and a chance for people in the town to come to know the love of Jesus.

“Over the weekend, our members will also join together for prayer, reflection and seminars on spiritual storytelling for children; homelessness and supporting older people living with   dementia.

“And we are looking forward to welcoming Colonels Wendy and Rodney Walters who are from Australia originally and have served the Salvation Army in Russia and the Urkaine, to this beautiful part of Wales to celebrate the love of Jesus.”

Brecon’s mayor, Councillor Ieuan Williams, will be coming along to meet Lieutenant Colonels Ramos and Colonels Walter on Saturday.

The international entertainer Bryn Yemm has also been raising money for The Salvation Army and he will be in Brecon on Sunday to present a cheque to The Salvation Army.
