In response to improvement measures following a meeting of the Prime Minister’s Modern Slavery Taskforce on Monday 16 October 2017.

A spokesperson for The Salvation Army, said: “We warmly welcome the new measures from the Prime Minister’s Modern Slavery Taskforce to improve the National Referral Mechanism (NRM); the areas identified will improve the decision-making process and support offered to victims of modern slavery, which is crucial in their journey to recovery from exploitation.

The impact of waiting for these life-changing decisions can be highly destructive to the well-being of the people who are being supported by The Salvation Army. We witness on a daily basis how uncertainty can prevent potential victims of modern slavery from moving on with their lives. Therefore we welcome measures such as these, which are designed to make the process more efficient, reliable and transparent and to give highly vulnerable people more certainty about their future.”
