46-year-old father of three Chris Green is married to Sarah and they will be celebrating their 23rd wedding anniversary this year. The health and social care tutor and assessor at Gower College last ran the London Marathon 10 years ago.

Chris has run a series of half marathons in the past and decided that 2020 would be his year for getting fit and helping others.

“This year I have decided that I want to get fitter and do something for others. I don't necessarily enjoy running however it does give you time to think and be thankful for what we have and realise so many others don’t have what we’ve got and so often those things are just the basics” said Chris.

“The Salvation Army's focus this year is on people who are homeless, victims of modern day slavery and those who are vulnerable. I am running the Virgin Money London Marathon to support that work and help people who are vulnerable to have a better life and more opportunities.”

Chris - a lifelong member of The Salvation Army - worships at the Swansea Citadel church on 40 Richardson Street where he plays in the brass band, sings in the choir and helps out with leading services and his parents are both retired Salvation Army officers.

“The Salvation Army does so much nationally and locally to help people who are vulnerable” said Chris.

“In Swansea, we have supported families who are in need and provided food parcels for people who are hungry. We also organise a soup run on Sundays for people experiencing homelessness” he concluded.

This year, Chris will be joining 41 other runners as part of The Salvation Army’s team in the Virgin London Marathon – the Sally Army Striders.

He is almost half way to reaching his £2,000.00 target and you can support Chris by donating to his Just Giving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/chris-green78
