New job club will help people of Felixstowe back into to work

Trying to find a job can be a daunting process but help is at hand for jobseekers thanks to The Salvation Army in Felixstowe.

From February 28, the church and charity in the town will be hosting a weekly Job Club where anyone looking for work can get the skills and support needed to find a job.

Captain Paul Williams leads The Salvation Army in Felixstowe and said employers and local organisations will attend the club to provide jobseekers with support in a number of different areas, including writing CVs, using IT and preparing for interviews. Volunteering opportunities are also available.

Felixstowe Salvation Army held a Quick Chat Event at the end of January to connect job seekers with employers and other organisations who can support them on their way back to work

He explained: “We decided to launch the club after the job centre approached us to ask if we would be able to provide additional support for people in the town who are looking for work. We have a good location and reputation in the community and can also offer our visitors some pastoral support.”

As well as expert help, people coming to the job club will also be able to meet others on the look-out for work, something which Paul thinks they will find beneficial.

He said: “Meeting other people who are out of work can be really valuable when you are trying to find a job yourself because they understand what you are going through and can support you along the way.”

We want people to be as skilled and ready as they can be in a supportive community where people can grow in confidence in their own ability

Paul said he is thrilled the town has come together in support of local jobseekers and has also thanked the town council who are supporting the Job Club financially.

He added: “Its terrific to have something locally owned and the feeling was that something like this is really important and needed. Local employers don’t foresee having many vacancies available this year so we want people to be as skilled and ready as they can be in a supportive community where people can grow in confidence in their own ability. This has captured people’s imagination and I’m looking forward to seeing how it develops.”

The Job Club starts on February 28 and will meet every Wednesday from 10am to noon at The Salvation Army, Cobbold Road, Felixstowe.
