MSP praises Salvation Army's community work in Glenrothes

An MSP has praised The Salvation Army in Glenrothes for being a "valuable local resource".

Jenny Gilruth, who represents Mid Fife and Glenrothes, paid tribute to the organisation during a visit to its community church and furniture showroom.

The Salvation Army runs a number of programmes from its base on Caskieberran Road, as well as operating a furniture reuse project on nearby Bankhead Industrial Estate. All profits from the furniture project directly fund the charity's community work, which includes a popular playgroup, junior and senior singing groups, Sunday worship and youth clubs for different ages.

Jenny said: "I've been impressed with The Salvation Army and how it's at the heart of the community here in Glenrothes.

"As for its furniture project, it's a valuable local resource that is there for folk setting up home for the first time or for people who are maybe moving house. And with Christmas coming up it's an affordable place for people to get some quality furniture.

"It's well talked about on social media and people share what furniture is being sold so things get snapped up quickly, which is reflective of the good quality of the furniture."

The Salvation Army in Glenrothes is led by envoys Jacqueline and David Robertson, who were delighted to welcome Ms Gilruth to see first hand the practical support being offered there.

Jacqueline said: "We were delighted to welcome Jenny and it was great to show her around the community church and explain the work we do.

"She also came along and spent time at our furniture reuse project , the profits from which go straight back into the community work we do locally. We also spoke about the training opportunities that it offers to volunteers looking to get back into work.
