Lincoln Salvation Army takes Community Fun Day to Tesco
published on 16 Sep 2026
Residents are invited to join The Salvation Army's final Community Fun Day of the summer? at Tesco Extra on Wragby Road on Saturday 19 September, following a successful series of events that have strengthened community connections across Lincoln.
Since the beginning of a successful partnership between The Salvation Army in Lincoln and Tesco stores in the city in 2026, the local arm of the church and charity has hosted a series of Community Fun and Fundraising Days designed to raise awareness of their work in the community while also bringing local people together through music, crafts and conversation.
The initiative which grew from a longstanding relationship with the Community Champion at Tesco Extra on Wragby Road blossomed into what is now the Community Fun Day, which has now recorded three events out of the four planned for each year. The previous events took place in the months of June, July and August.
So far, they have featured performances from the Salvation Army band, free children's craft activities, an information stand sharing the Salvation Army’s War Cry and Kids Alive! publications, and fundraising activities. Visitors have also had the chance to meet Shieldy, The Salvation Army's friendly mascot.
Amanda Whitecombe, church leader at The Salvation Army in Lincoln said: "We are immensely grateful to Tesco for supporting this initiative. The events have been a wonderful opportunity to meet people where they are, share more about The Salvation Army's work and build new relationships within our community. We've enjoyed hundreds of conversations with shoppers, given out copies of our publications, and welcomed children to our craft activities. While the fundraising has been fantastic, the real success has been making connections and letting people know we're still on Lincoln High Street, serving the community."
The final Community Fun Day of the year takes place on Saturday 19 September at Tesco Extra, Wragby Road, from 10am to 4pm and will include:
-
Live music from The Salvation Army band (playing from 11am for a few hours)
