Free summer holiday club for kids in Chippenham

published on 30 Jul 2025

The Salvation Army in Chippenham is stepping in to help parents keep their children entertained, fed, and safe during the summer holidays with a free holiday club for 7- to 11-year-olds.

From 11th–14th August, children from all faiths and backgrounds can enjoy activities like an inflatable bungee run, air archery, and a visit from the South Western Ambulance Service—real-life heroes in action. There’ll also be crafts, team games, and free snacks so no child goes hungry. The week wraps up with a talent show and party, where parents are invited to join in the fun.

Miriam Dann-Gandy, the Community Support Worker at Chippenham Salvation Army who is organising the holiday club, says: ‘Keeping children occupied during the school summer holidays without breaking the bank can be really challenging for parents, especially those on tight budgets.

"We listen to what our community needs. There was a need for something for the kids, and we stepped in to fill the gap. This club is about giving children a place to explore and grow, while offering parents friendship and support too."

Last year the kids enjoyed archery.
“There will be everything from crafts to axe throwing. And all designed to give kids a space to play, make friends and explore what it means to be GOAT, "the greatest of all time."

“Who is the GOAT?’ resonates with many kids and we hope it sparks conversations with kids about what true greatness means. Whether it’s their favourite athlete, a superhero, or even a historical figure, we want them to think about the qualities that make someone truly admirable—kindness, courage, perseverance. And yes, we’ll even explore some ‘greats’ from the Bible! It’s a fun, thought-provoking way to help them reflect on their own role models—while having a blast with games, challenges, and maybe even discovering their own hidden talents.”

Although, run by The Salvation Army, the holiday club is open to all, reinforcing the charity’s mission to strengthen community bonds.
