Community Choir returns to Darlaston

published on 24 Apr 2026

The Salvation Army in Darlaston welcomed residents to lift their voices and spirits as its much-loved community choir returned this spring. The first rehearsal took place on Tuesday afternoon at the church on The Leys, with weekly sessions now underway, building towards a special community concert on Sunday 14 June.

The Community Choir initiative, now in its third year, has become a highlight in the local calendar, running twice a year and welcoming people of all ages and abilities. The opportunity requires no previous singing experience, and is an inclusive way for people to be part of something fun and uplifting.

The choir aims to bring the community together through music while helping to combat loneliness and isolation. Participants can expect to learn a lively mix of summer-themed songs, including both Christian and well-known secular favourites, and also have the opportunity to build friendships and connect with others in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

Weekly rehearsals leading up to the June concert is designed as a joyful, community-focused event for family, friends, and local residents to enjoy. Lee Highton-Nicholls, leader of The Salvation Army church in Willenhall and Darlaston hopes the performances, inspired by summer, will bring warmth and positivity to all who attend.

He said, “This choir is about more than just music. It is about creating a space where people feel welcome, connected, and uplifted. Whether you love to sing or just want to try something new, there is a place for you here.”
