Generous diners at The Grill On The Market in Smithfield, London, raised more than £2,000 for our churches' community work in Southwark and on Oxford Street.

Staff at the restaurant placed collection pots on tables during the Christmas season, so customers could support The Salvation Army's work.

Regent Hall singers provided music for diners inside the restaurant and Southwark musicians played Christmas tunes outside during the initiative.

Southwark church leader Lieutenant Jonathan Raggett accepted the donation cheque - totalling £2,185 - on behalf of the churches.

He said: “We want to thank all the people who gave so generously during the Christmas season. This donation will help us to continue our work with those most in need and vulnerable in our community.

“We are very grateful to The Grill On The Market for their support in running this special collection for us.”
