There was plenty of music, memories, friendship and celebration as Burton-on-Trent Salvation Army marked its 140th anniversary this October with a special weekend bringing together past and present members, volunteers and visitors.

The celebrations included an afternoon tea and a special Celebration Concert, with many visitors returning to the church to mark the milestone, including former soldiers who had been part of its story over the years.

Among the guests were The Salvation Army’s West Midlands Divisional Leaders, Majors Clare and Adrian Allman, alongside the Mayor of East Staffordshire, Councillor Monica Holton, and her consort Michael Holton.

The Celebration Concert was filled with music and performances from across the corps and beyond. The West Midlands Fellowship Band delighted the audience with a programme including Youth’s Ambitions and a special performance of Burton Citadel, a piece written for a previous anniversary which had not been heard for many years.

Afternoon tea added to the celebrations, with a special anniversary cake that was cut by Bandmaster, Peter Duke.

Territorial Envoy at the Burton Salvation Army, Andrea Hopkins said: “It was wonderful to see so many people, including former soldiers and friends, come together to celebrate 140 years of Burton Salvation Army. The music, memories and fellowship made the occasion very special, and we’re grateful to everyone who has helped shape our story. As we celebrate our past, we also look forward with faith and excitement to what God has in store for the years ahead.”
