In usual years an emergency response vehicle of The Salvation Army would be handing out hot drinks and snacks and playing Christmas carols to the gathered crowd, this year people will be able to watch the event from home.
Six members of Regent Hall Band have recorded videos of the well-known Christmas carol, ‘Hark! The Herald Angels Sing’, and the popular Salvation Army march, ‘Christmas Joy’, to be featured in the online event.
Paul Sharman, Bandmaster of Regent Hall Band, said: “We have played at the ceremony every year since 2007, and although things look a little different this year, it’s great that we can still keep the tradition going and perform in this way.
“Whilst this year has been so difficult for many, we know that for a lot of people Christmas starts when they hear a Salvation Army Band play, so we hope that our message will bring a bit of Christmas cheer to everyone watching.”
