No one should have to face hardship this Christmas

Help us support people like Jason

After years of manual labour, Jason developed osteoarthritis and was left unable to work. Around the same time, he experienced devastating personal loss when both his daughter and mother died within a short period.

Grieving, isolated and vulnerable, Jason was exploited by criminals who promised him work that he could do and extra money. But what seemed like help quickly became years of coercion and violence. Exhausted, afraid, and injured from attacks Jason was eventually identified as a victim of modern slavery and connected with The Salvation Army - which delivers the Modern Slavery Victim Care Contract to support recovering survivors in England and Wales.

After receiving support and moving into accommodation of his own, Jason hoped he could rebuild his life. But his trust and vulnerability were exploited once again when criminals threatened him, took over his home and used it for illegal activity.

Throughout it all, The Salvation Army stood by Jason’s side.

The Salvation Army have had my back 100% - I honestly don’t know where I’d be without them

Through specialist support, advocacy and persistence, Jason was eventually helped into safe semi-supported accommodation far away from those exploiting him. Today, he is rebuilding his life, reconnecting with family, and he remains hopeful for the future.

‘I’m the happiest I’ve been in ten years. I finally feel safe.’

For The Salvation Army, it is unthinkable that people should have to face their darkest moments alone, especially at Christmas. That’s why we won’t rest until we’ve reached as many people who are suffering and vulnerable as we can.
