This World Cup, Change the Game on Homelessness

As the World Cup kicks off, the nation comes together, united by passion, hope and the belief that anything is possible until the final whistle blows.

Tonight, thousands of people across the UK will have nowhere safe to sleep. Homelessness is rising fast. The UK has one of the highest rates of homelessness in the developed world. ’More people are sleeping rough, in temporary accommodations, or hidden from view, either on sofas, on friends’ floors, or on the back seat of cars.

For those without a home, every day is a battle fought without safety or stability.  The consequences are stark. In the UK, someone experiencing homelessness can expect to live more than 30 years less than someone with a secure home. That is a statistic no one should accept.

At The Salvation Army, we refuse to sit on the sidelines. We walk alongside people facing their toughest moments, offering practical support and heartfelt care when they need it most. We see it as everybody’s right to have a safe place to sleep at night.

During this World Cup alone, we will provide 117,000 safe nights’ accommodation in our Lifehouses or supported accommodation services for people experiencing homelessness.

Homelessness does not end when the tournament tournament finishes. That is why we are there every night of the year, offering warm meals, expert housing advice, and a safe place for individuals to recover, rebuild and rediscover hope. In 2026, we expect to provide over one million nights of accommodation for people experiencing homelessness.

This World Cup, your business can be part of something bigger. We are inviting you to create an impact that lasts longer than it takes for one team to lift the trophy.  Together, we can change the game on homelessness.
