Adwoa's story
Adwoa* left home following a job opportunity which turned out to be false. She found herself in an exploitative situation living in a room with no access to water, food or light.
Adwoa met someone from The Salvation Army who supported her to return home by coordinating with another charity. Through our global network we connected her to one of our specialist team in her home country so that she could be supported to navigate life back home. She was penniless having spent everything she had to pay the agent who tricked her into leaving. Funds from our Beyond Programme, which supports survivors of human trafficking to reintegrate safely, and the local team of specialists supported Adwoa to develop a plan so she could start to run a shop and earn money to support herself. Our local team check in with her regularly and remain a supportive point of contact as Adwoa continues her journey of reintegration.
