- God’s provision in times of trial

How can members participate in the Harvest Altar Service during lockdown?
Interactively - GIVt
If your Corps has started to use GIVt, then you can use a QR code generated by your Corps specifically for your Harvest Altar Service. Members can give donations anonymously during worship using the GIVt app on their smartphone. If they are registered for Gift Aid then your corps will still receive this.
Standing Order
If members have a standing order for their cartridge then you could advise them to take one of the following two approaches:
- Amend the monthly standing order to include a Harvest Altar gift element so that their gift is received over 12 months of the year. Don't forget to let the Corps Treasurer know so the system allocation can be updated.
- Make a one-off bank transfer using the reference <<member no>><<corps code>>CTHF. They will find the <<member no>><<Corps code>> on their cartridge standing order reference, or ask your Corps Treasurer.
One-off Bank Transfer
Members can make an anonymous donation via a one-off bank transfer using simply <<corps code>>CTHF as a reference.
Cash/cheque
People can still give with cash/cheque in a labelled envelope which should be given to the Corps Officer or Finance local.
For those who are registered for Gift Aid, all methods apart from the anonymous one-off bank transfer and anonymous envelope will enable Gift Aid to be claimed.
Where the Money Goes
Each year THQ requests that all corps in the UK hold a Harvest Festival Altar Service:
- 75% of what is raised supports local corps mission.
- 25% goes to the Mission Opportunities Fund for the division.
The total amount received should be recorded via the Accounting System eReturn - Cartridge - HF Altar column, against individual members or against the member 'Anon' for non-attributable gifts.
Where the young people's corps hold a separate Harvest Festival Altar Service, the total amount received should be recorded via the eReturn - CA1 YP HF Altar Service entry line. (Use the filter facility and search for *HF* to find it quickly.)
The 25 per cent allocated to the Mission Opportunities Fund will be transferred by THQ at a later date to the DHQ Fund.
